finished my Texas planning
2 nights in Valley View seeing Mostly/Bruce at Lakeview RV
2 nights in Georgetown seeing Don at Reagan Ridge Rv
2 nights in Giddings seeing Kyle
if there are others in the area, hope you contact me

I also decided not to go to Texas shore where I had planned because when I zoomed in
there was no view of the Bay, only some manmade lakes. I can see them anywhere...
Plus I'm going to spend a couple of days at the shore in Alabama before heading North.

After Giddings, found a nice place near Beaumont as I'm heading East, then on to Convent Louisiana to a rv park
right on the Mississippi River. I really didn't want to make a 4+ hour drive and then deal with downtown
New Orleans traffic.

loaded a lot of frozen food into rv, to make sure it fit, and both freezers are now full.
took some time to go through my home fridge, geez found a jar in back labeled 2021.
that prompted me to start chucking a lot of stuff, might as well clean it out before I go.

made some salmon burgers for dinner which were good,.
really have itch to go look at scale but promised myself I would only do that on saturdays.
not like I'm going to melt away like a popsicle in Dallas...

Good Evening,
Vt, 40’s this morning but warmed to upper 60’s later !

Latest check in ever ! Sorry ! I’m supposed to relax up here but not much of that until later today! The contractors came up early to finish putting the James Hardy siding on the house peak and then they finished so had to pay them, they did a nice job ! I had them take the pine fascia off around the porch and had them replace it with a white composite ! It will never rot, I shouldn’t have to worry about it in my lifetime! Then on the phone with our financial adviser from
Merrill Lynch, lots of back and forth with her over some documents she sent us to move some money around ! By early afternoon my head was kind of spinning and then some friends we know showed up kind of unexpectedly!

Did get the lawn mowed and that settled me down a bit ! 😉

Mike, so sorry to hear about your FIL ! Our prayers ! 🙏

Then a call from our DIL that our GD drank a small cup of liquid Motrin ! 😳
Our other DIL is a pharmacist and advised what to do !

I’m thinking a quiet night with Kathleen is on the agenda and hope for a better day tomorrow!

Hope all have a nice Thursday evening! 🙏

I am going to the Big Texan in Amarillo for lunch btw, I see they have a small steak that I'm sure is good.
I'll wind up taking half back anyway. Pretty sure with three GM guys coming next, I'll get my fill of
red meat. Except at Don's of course. I would like to take Don and his wife to his nicest vegan restaurant for dinner.
if I'm going to float like a beached whale in his pool, it's the least I can do...
Second week in October, should be nice weather.

ordered another cigarette lighter plug splitter and a heavy gauge 14 foot extension cord for the small freezer, which runs off 12VDC.
When I stop driving, I just unplug the cord to the dash and plug other end into 12OVAC, which then transforms back down to 12VDC.
I'd just leave it plugged in but it's running off engine battery, not a good thing when the rv's converter is only charging the two house batteries, not
the engine battery. It's a new big 850 CCA Interstate but not sure how happy it would be to run that freezer all night long.
I'm sure I could calculate it if I wanted to. Some of you guys are masters at electrical management; this is lint fuzz in the pocket in comparison.

and whenever I can, belt and suspenders. Which reminds me I need to pack more spare AAA and AA batteries.

would really be a good idea to take this loaded rig onto truck scales
I run with mostly empty water and black/grey tanks so pretty sure I'm not even close to being overweight.
But how do you know until you weigh yourself. All those compartments are full.

never gone in a truck scale before
scared to screw up and block the real trucks out there...
are all truck scales the same?
is there a charge?

I would like to get separate weights for each axle.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,405
Most of the larger truck stops have CAT scales. Flying J/Pilot (I don't know if TA is still in operation, but Flying J got bought out by Pilot I think.
When you pull onto the cat scale (there is a charge for that) you will see the split in the scale plates. Just make sure your front axle is on one section of the scale and the rear axle is on the other part of the scale. Push the button on the speaker and talk to whomever answers. They will tell you how much they want and you will get a scale ticket with your weights printed on it.
The other way is to go to the DoT scales and insure they are closed and roll slowly onto the scale plate and stop, red the LED sign that will have your weight of the front axle, then roll up until your rear axle is on the scale and see the LED readout. Add the two of them together and you get your gross weight. If they are open, they will probably take a dim view of you going in, but it doesn't hurt to ask BEFORE you cross the plate. The GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) should be on either the drivers door edge or the door jamb.
GVWR is the maximum the vehicle can weigh legally. They might give you an attaboy for giving a care about your weight. IF you have passenger or RV plates on it, they may cut you some slack. BUT if you have commercial plates, not so much. Hope that helps.

68°F and .26 inches rain

Just as my tractor tech was finishing up we got a surprise visit by mainland friends. Lenny is the guy that helped me paint the house 2 years ago.

Today will be a mixed bag. Other friends are prepping to sell and move offered me a nice slab of koa wood. Pick that up this morning.

Got a potential buyer for the Chevy Spark will work that out today.

And I’m hopeful to get a few hours to work my LS tractor to confirm we found the problem. We have a potential hurricane headed this way and weather changing.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day.
Your having heck of week so far.

Back from all day trip to mow the lot. Probably the tallest grass there I’ve ever had to mow. There’s a wirey tall grass with red head on it, that don’t cut well. Not the best looking mow job, but it’s done. Took a lot longer, 2.4 hrs on the meter, usually around 2.
Nice day weather wise. Traffic a bit heavy.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,411
Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 10.2C and it's presently 17.9C, mostly overcast (rain predicted late tonight) with a steady breeze.

Doctor's appointment went quickly. Apparently my diabetes # is up a bit (6.1?), but we'll wait another 3 months to see if any 'adjustments' are needed. I did get one script that he missed on my last visit so that, in itself, was worth the trip.

Nothing really planned for today, so... That's about it, take care all.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,412
I'm sure you have as you're a stickler for lists, but have you ensured your propane bottles are topped off for your adventure?
sure have, thanks.
the main tank is at 75% and I have a one gallon mini tank for my propane barbecue.
Since I'll be at rv campgrounds almost every night don't expect to use propane heat much.
I'm taking two 1250 watt electric heaters that I run usually on low. I hope to be home long before I'd have to turn
them on high. Also taking small electric fan to help with a/c.
I'll be getting it all, Sonoran desert and Colorado mountains.

Most rv campgrounds sell propane or at least enough of them do that if I get down near 1/3 on that main tank, I'll
fill up at the next campground. I have one of those wireless tank level transmitters I'm going to install one afternoon along the way.

I leave my propane tank open while driving since it runs the propane/110V fridge. There are opinions this is not a good practice perhaps in an accident.
Or a broken line. You always have to shut the tank off in tunnels. I think the prior owners of this rv ran the gen the whole time they drove and kept fridge on that way. I'll never know. I've never had a problem with propane systems. Most propane equipment is overbuilt for safety.

as long as not being used for rv heat, I find the main tank lasts a long time. I'm always checking it and needle moves slowly.

I always forget something. Always.

Bill, thanks for explanation on scales.
I do check the tires carefully, pretty normal wear plus I have a tpms that in between the false alarms will hopefully
save my butt.
If I filled up my water tank and let the grey and black tanks fill up, not sure that would end well,
as fully loaded as I will be with clothes and food. But I only travel with enough water to flush the toilet, usually.
not many places I stay at don't have water provided. They may not have septic though, lot of eco sensitive areas like along beaches
don't allow it. So while I normally look for "full hookups" for a few nights, doesn't have to be.
I admit I'm not very adventurous beyond the scope of adventure as it already is...

Saw the dentist today for my cracked tooth.
Spent 90 minutes in the chair for X-ray and consultation.
Work to be done Friday.
Tooth itself is fixable for about $650.
Good news is the rest are in good condition considering I haven't had my backside in a dentist chair for aboot 15 years.
Just a good cleaning needed.
Hoping Pepe Le Pew 🦨 stays away tonight or he just might meet his maker.🕰️

Sure does not fell like a cool down we were at 104.2 this afternoon and a heat index of 115˚, I was outside for just a bit till my ears started burning. But now it has dropped below 100˚ and we can say good bye to the hundreds maybe for the rest of the year, yea! 95 now and I don't count heat index which is still 102˚.

Drew the best haircut is in Giddings - 477 N. Main Street. it is an old filling station so there is lots of parking and the side streets in Giddings are extra wide. Wide streets were a distinguishing characteristic of Giddings; both main thoroughfares were 100 feet wide, and other streets were eighty feet wide.

Oh so hopeful 🤙

Two hours with my LS with the 6ft rotary cutter. Closer to abuse than mowing
6-8 ft guinea grass and oh so thick

About 2 hours and nary a hiccup

Went to friends and picked up the Koa planks approx 29” x125x 1 3/4. Planed, not rough. Should make a very nice dining table.

Kinda funny story. We have known these guys almost since buying here. Saw them build their house as we built ours. Saw these 2 planks in their barn and drooling, but they said they had plans. So today, almost 20 years later they helped me load atop my truck. A few guys here have an idea what a score. Sophie said the guys paid $200 for these 20 years ago.

Also appears the Chevy Spark is sold. Or will be when money exchanges hands on Sat.

Getting behind again....

got any gold bars at home?
hope you do
400 oz bar is now worth one million dollars, a record.

really kind of amazing this metal has held its value for so long.

hmmm, this also means that if you have any old gold jewelry you never got rid of
this is likely a good time to cash it out. Sell high...

It makes me mad whenever I see the "We buy scrap Gold" signs. There's no such thing.

Good morning! Low of 58°, going up to 92°, sunny.
Some rain chances are on the horizon.... maybe on Friday/ Saturday.

Fritz, YOU'RE THE WINNER! I normally follow the KISS principle, but for some reason (probably the past severity of abuse), went right to the "major" level of repair.....
Not the case.... new radiator cap was the fix! Up to full temp, loaded it with a test drive up and down the hills....reservoir went from cold mark to hot mark.... no boiling! YEA!
Definitely need to flush the whole system for sure! Coolant is very dirty.

The string trimmer heads were also delivered!

Fingers crossed that the run of issues is over with...

Everyone have a great day!
Great news, hope it lasts a long time.

Yes, the TA's could be the weaker point in the IH's that had them. Most of the time it was actually from owner/operators that thought they were being nice to them by easing them in or out, when that is actually the worst thing to do to them. They do require a split to replace but when replaced by some of the aftermarket and used briskly they will go 10,000's of hours.
Many of that series did not have the TA's which is actually a shame as it can work so nicely.
As far as 2wd drives working in the snow that was all that I used till 2015 on a steep icey driveway, they used to be dicey at times till I discovered the Euro style studded chains. They make an amazing difference. The Oliver 1550 that I traded in on the Branson and the IH 574 that I still have were my main driveway tractors and snow removal for many years. It was much less expensive back then to have the two older ones then one newer one and it gave an option if one was acting up to use the other.
The worst thing with the 2wd tractors was getting a front tire over the bank while pushing snow banks back, it could be difficult getting them to back up the hill and pull the front wheels back up on the roadway, another reason for a second one, plus it left me one for the generator when needed.
Good info! Thanks! Stomp on it, don't baby them.

48 crazy glorious degrees. I have declared it "October in August" day. Getting to 76.

Thomas, you live in a special place...good helpful folks.
Hot here. Glad y'all are nice and cool. Pretty much unbearable outside from 2pm to nighttime. The flock hangs out in the shade, and the cat too while lying in the breezeway. At 6AM my barn is still 88-90F inside. I left both end's doors open until 10pm to try and help it cool down a bit.

Prayers for your family.

Helped make a plaque for a retiring professor yesterday and today.

Good evening all. 78ºF for the start, overcast, breezy. Moderate wind, brisk gusts, variable cloudiness, and high temp was 97ºF, HI 104ºF. Made coffee to start day, bike ride, thought time was slow until looked at wind penalty, then not so bad. Got 100K route loaded in GPS, did get nap in, group dinner at Mexican restaurant.
Ron Hope grocery shopping went well. Must have good ride home from airport :) Yellow ears looks confused.
Buppies glad day ended no disasters :) prayers sent.
Thomas hope day went well.
Ron glad you got caught with us, no get caught up with sister :)
RNG had intermittent covering of outlet pipe of fuel tank on one of my cars. Worked much better once paper towel was removed! Hope you packed everything you wanted for trip and hd a good one.
NHBX nice forecast. Hope you get the steel taken care of.
Drew nice you get to see great nieces. There are barbers in TX ;) They should list all the states EZPass works with on their website.
Massey rider hope Dentist visit went well. Might not be a bad idea to see if brekky ruins more dental work.
Paul hope cabling progresses well. Lot going with construction, sorry little plane feels neglected.
Mike sorry about FIL diagnosis, hope you can get his house in order. Prayers sent. Sorry about the gold digging, I hate that. Sorry about work contract, hope you can get something renewed. Hope you can get home long enough to get mowing under control and find out about streaky finish.
Drew love the story on changing fuel filters on the fly. In bus installs 8V92's were good for about 300hp. Easier not to ding prop on Mississippi River soft mud or sand most places, might erode prop paint.

Frits must have been big fence :)
Drew you forgot minimum water current as well.

Drew I wouldn't leave freezer plugged into engine battery either.
Thomas glad you got through to litter bugs, sorry about bread. Looks like Boo is a critic as well.
Scott(vt) thanks for pics.
Dennis glad lot mowed, and weather good. Sorry about traffic.
Randy(wag) in US A1C of 6.1 is pre-diabetes not full on Type 2 diabetes.
Drew a 2 month trip across US is quite the adventure!
