Does mesquite have an odor as one might guess?

No my mesquite does not. The wood shown in the pictures is all Post Oak. The Mesquite I have is not that big that it needs splitting. The burning Post Oak has the aroma of the kind of BBQ smell that I am accustomed to. I really don't like the mesquite smell, however it does make some good long lasting hot coals.
I really love the smell of the fresh cut cedar but do not burn it in my WBS, only oak and mesquite.

Had breakfast with a fellow TBNer, vtsnowedin, a couple hours ago....today's chores will be taking my wife to the store (within an hour, I'd say), clean up yesterday's snow and get some more wood in.
It's all the way up to 15 degrees now..maybe it will hit the 25 degrees as predicted.

btw, as a person who believes in humility, I don't like the label "elite" on this site. I know it's used as a complimentary
adjective, but somehow it just rubs me the wrong way. Kind of wish there were less labels and ones that were more useful.

Good morning all. 24F this morning, high of 45 sunny w/light breeze. Good snow melt going on, exterior Christmas lights up, Christmas tree needs ornaments, BIL-SIL now gone. Ornaments today wood tomorrow.

And for anyone out west waiting for a UPS delivery, I sat at a RR crossing here in Texas today, that the train must have been a mile, (or more) long. Over half of the cars were carrying UPS trailers, and the train was going west. I guess the roads didn't let them pass, so they sent by train, and will hook the semi to those trailers, when they come off of the train. Hold on! The goods are coming!

Thanks for all the anniversary well wishes. Margie didn't mind me watching basketball, she was just glad I didn't do it in the living room. She took the day off and we did a little Christmas shopping in Marianna this morning. A word of advise to anyone looking to buy something for their BIL. Do not go to Tractor Supply Co. to do it. I spent more on him than I had planned, and we won't even talk about what I bought for me. After that we had a nice lunch at the Wharf Express, then had our eyes checked and bought a couple of pairs of glasses. Not too romantic, but we both needed them. I could think of better ways to spend $700.

Yea!! the wood splitter arrived yesterday evening and in an hour all the fun was over with.

Congratulations Larros. Ahhumm - watching basketball on anniversary night - sounds like you are still in need of more training - only 23 years - there is still time.

There really is a Santa Claus!!! Woohoo! My 32" Samsung Smart HDTV for our bedroom arrived at 6:00 PM tonight. I can put it up tomorrow if the existing bracket for the current TV works.

33 this morning high later today in 50s high in 60s for weekend then 40s next week but no white Christmas for us. Hopefully will do XMAS shopping this weekend as have done none to date running out of time. Kitchen 95 percent done waiting on under counter lights to come in, downdraft done all cabinet doors and drawers now in, all appliances up and running and now eating good home cooked meals. Wife is pleased. Have one small section of wall left to paint and last but not least tile back splash which will come in after first of year. Good morning all

Good morning all, 23 out and headed up to 42 today, but then it starts to warm, and gets into the sixties with rain this weekend. Buppies, glad you got something home cooked out of your beautiful new kitchen. Your wife must be in heaven.
And you'll find your favorite bottle opener in about a month...

headed South to Delaware after breakfast, seeing my best childhood friend, who retired there. He tells me Thursday night is oyster night there and that's where we are headed tonight, to the oyster buffet.
The drive there is mostly unattractive until I get further south into Delaware. Route 95 through Philadelphia and Wilmington DE is just plain ugly. I get about thirty seconds view of the Delaware River, where I always look over to see if any tugs are going up or down, and then it's just concrete and zillions of crazy drivers, all trying to go twenty over.
I do ten or fifteen over in the right lane and almost get run over. I spent forty years in that left lane, racing to business appointments, now it sure is nice to slow down a little. I want a good sniff of every one of those roses...
