Only drawback to going with a non HE washer now is I can forget any savings with the dryer as the dryer is only as efficient as the washer. Washer must get the water spun out of the clothes.
I replaced 30 year old Whirlpool washer/dryer 8 years ago with HE front load units from LG and have been very happy with them. I was even able to get a propane conversion kit for the dryer when I moved up here. Though I never tested the washer with sweaty chicken, I sent plenty of dirt caked jeans and work shirts, greasy rags, and poison oak smeared jackets and pants through it and all emerged spotless and smelling fresh. Maybe it's the detergent; I use Tide HE liquid from Costco. Maybe it's hard water? :confused3:
