Good morning!!!!

/ Good morning!!!! #79,821
Good evening to all! Another hot day, started out at 54 this morning, but quickly went up to 94ー. Chance of a scattered t-storm tonight.

Was just finishing up washing the dinner dishes and heard some thunder. Went out and saw both a sunset and storm at the same time. Couldn't get any better pics of the lightning, but it was awesome, streaking across the sky and hitting the ground at the same time. It looks like it's going to the east of us, but we might get a little sprinkle.:cool:

Nice pics Guys. Phones, lightning.

Good evening all. 77F this morning, mostly clear sky, calm wind. Brisk gusty wind, clear sky, and high temp of 100F. Chapel at start, meal delivery at 10 return for lunch and nap. We had talked about going out in the boat, but decide wind would make it not fun.
Prayer for all.

Those phones are cool:D  We have a replica of those, it has a rotary dial, but sends out a touch tone like a modern phone. It will be used in our new 'cottage' that I'm building. The theme of the building is a 40's southern farmhouse. Nothing like having the 'real thing' though.

Drew, nice melons! Our garden pretty much succumbed to the heat. We were able to get about 2 dozen plum tomatoes, 2 zucchini, and 4 squash. Tomato plants are now drying out and browning. Out of about 24 green bean plants, we got maybe 2 handfuls of beans. Only have maybe 4 plants left. Okra struggled to give us a few. They got watered religiously, some shaded with shade cloth, some full sun, no difference in growth or production. Can't figure it out. Last year, same plants, same area, did exceptionally well....oh wel. Drew, you have not only the green thumb, but green hands.

Glad to NOT hear of any of you guys getting flooded out.

Everyone have a great start to the week, stay safe and out of trouble. Prayers out to hose in need.

A more productive day than anticipated.

Put some of Sophies’ pineapple and a cup of rice in the IP stuffed cabbage leftover and hit the Rice button. Made for another nice meal.

Quit raining but hasn’t dried all that much. I actually had difficulty backing the Tractor up a small slope due to mud.
I did put together a start of fuel storage area, just blocks dry stacked and will figure out some sort of cover. Wife talked me out of properly stacking the blocks as I didn’t have any half blocks and she talked me out of cutting them. Most likely I’ll fill all the cavities from my sand pile to get a bit more stability but no intention to mortar.
Got my trailer cleaned up and parked. Now to check it out, get it inspected and reregistered. If it ever dries enough I need to hook up brush mower destroy some albizia seedlings.

I aways remember the phone on the wall and we would turn the ringer. In the sixties they already had the dial phone so I never got to use their old phone.

I wonder how many kids are going to keep their grandparents phone and then 60 years from now and think what a primitive antique.

My kids have been harassing me about my 12 y/o flip phone.... I finally gave in and got an IPhone...even then it's only a 4s

I remember growing up and having the wall phone in the kitchen that had like a 40' long cord...that was a big deal, to be able to go around the corner into another room to get some privacy. At one time, we had a party line...strange to say the least.

David, what in the world is an Albizia?

An invasive, weed tree. Not very strong and can be very damaging when large and wind blown. We had one near middle of property. Being a tree lover from Maine and not knowing what it was and let it grow. When Iselle hit in 2014 tremendous damage related to Albizia.
Unfortunately, mine had just started throwing off seed, even though the tree itself is now pretty dead.

Those darker clumps are the seedlings, probably a hundred or more. I hand cut last year but didn’t keep up by mowing. They have returned with a vengeance. This time I hope to brush mow into oblivion. I never had a problem when I mowed regularly before having sweet potatoes.

We had a party line until I was a Jr or Sr in HS.

I can remember being enamored of many thing at both grandparents houses growing up, stuff inside the house and other stuff somewhat discarded and relegated to an out building. I particularly remember my granddad’s brother, Uncle Harry, always had a growing collection of old tools. Often I would be gifted with one, old hatchet, a saw, maybe something I didn’t even know what it was. Of course, none were deemed items of value and since disappeared along the way. My granddad had been a blacksmith and I suspect many of those odd pieces of metal were really tools. Even some of the kitchen items that you never see anymore but we just took for granted. If we only knew....

Good morning. I'm up early to try and get an extra hour or two of cool air into the house. This hot weather is really dominating everything.

I've had plenty of exercise these last few days from walking around with a knapsack sprayer. Only trouble is the many hundreds of squirts at individual weeds now has my right forearm playing up, it doesn't even want to hold my hand above a keyboard. Ron, I could do with some lessons on what to do while arm heals. :)

Kyle, I take a few pictures occasionally but I've never kept a journal. What do you record in yours ?
I suppose yesterday I would have written down that our 9 month old grandson has just learned how to crawl. The week before I could have noted that his 8 year old brother learned how to sulk. Ok, that may be fun.

Good morning all, 65 going to 87 with a 30% chance of T-storms. Need to mow the grass today, it is over long and will likely make a mess in places but :confused3: that is life. Nothing else planed.

Don, your pic of the phone made me remember the thing I played with when I was a child. The gen with the crank hooked to it. We had one with no phone and I never knew what it was. Where we lived the phone co. would not put in a line because we were so isolated. My dad was the county republican party chairman and one of the big wigs made a call and we got a phone that week. It was about 1963 or 64. We had a party line with 3 other people.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

70 going to 92.

Cool phones. Never used one like that.

LS, very nice lightning pix.

Son and GF brought their dogs for a visit...little 10 week old Brittany was a blast. Got hit by a t-storm while I was grilling chicken and squash. My wife tried out a new dish with the chicken that was dee-lish.

70 outside this AM. Heading into the 90's. Could use the heat and not the humidity to dry things up. Managed to work the run in and the grasses yesterday for a little. Unfortunate I have a few "low" spots, due to the rain, the grass has completely died off. I will see about moving some dirt around to solve that. I hope to start the front "lawn" today, when it dries from the humidity. That should be around 3PM.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 72° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 87° with thunderstorm in afternoon. Got lawn cut yesterday. Was inside by noon. But did run down to local vegetable market to get a couple ears of fresh corn. Cooked on grill. Very good. Got some garden pond items cleaned up and ready to put on EBAY for sale. Not much planned for today. Ortho Dr appointment in afternoon.

LS like the lighting pictures.

Don, nice old phone. While we never had one like that. Family we visited in the country had one into the 60's. My mother worked for Bell Telephone. So we always had the latest phones. But were on a party line. When we moved to our place in 72 we had a party line until almost 1980. Now we do not have a wired phone at all.

Eric, when my arm is in real pain I do a exercise that PT taught me. Lay or stand on a flat surface. Then tuck your chin in toward chest without moving your head off the flat surface. Not sure your pain will go away. But ti works for me. I have some neck nerve problems that go down into my arm. Helps with shoulder pain also. Almost forgot. Give it a rest.

Kyle, hope you get your equipment repairs straighten out. I remember your JD tractor from a visit we made to your place. It looked so clean and green.

Good Morning All.
