I'm confused, Ed. There should be four wires in the lead to the lathe: One for each of the three phases, and ground. No neutral, unless you wanna call the ground wire neutral, which some do but I don't think is correct. I'm not an expert, either, but probably know enough to be dangerous. Especially when I'm tired, made some big boo boos then... It does matter how those wires are connected to the forward/reverse/off switch on the lathe. There should be a diagram either on a name plate on the lathe or in the documentation that came with it. No documentation you say? Google is your friend. Those plugs can be confusing, too. Not always clear which end of the plug you're supposed to be looking at when referring to the diagram. And yeah, that can make things buzz, and spark, too!
Made some good progress on the saddle bag mounts yesterday, and have just one more piece to install. Might finish today.
First I have to clean up the rest of the big pine that fell across the driveway sometime yesterday. I didn't hear it go down, but I bet it made a noise! about forty feet tall and 18" through the trunk at the base, it broke off at ground level. Looks like it's been rotten for a while, and I've been noticing it leaning more and more. But it's in the easement, and the neighbor gets all bent out of shape when make improvements to maintain my access, even though that's specifically allowed in the deed to my property. :confused2: Anyway, first I learned about the down tree was at about 6:30PM last night when I went up to get the mail and found the driveway completely blocked. No getting around it, either. Dry as a tinder box all around, with tons of pine needles and dead grass and brush everywhere, so I was very nervous about using a chain saw on it. Tried to drag it out of the way with the tractor, but it was too heavy. Called a neighbor for moral support and an extra pair of eyes, then rigged up the 15 gallon sprayer on the side-by-side and met him at the tree. We moved/scraped enough dead stuff out of the way to make room for a cut, then soaked everything down with the sprayer. Got all the way through when the trunk jumped pinching the saw, and had to use the forks on the FEL to get it loose. Pushed the first ten foot chunk off the driveway, and was able to drag the rest down to the wood pile. I'll go up for the rest this morning, and clean up some branches that broke off during the drag, too. Life's full of surprises, isn't it?
Hang in there, folks, Friday's comin'!
