What size is the lathe motor? How do you disconnect the start capacitor once the motor starts?

It is a 2 horse motor and I guess it disconnect by it's self. It is nothing I have to do.

Ron, thanks I have looked at a bunch of them and they all look the same so I figured it was right. Went out this morning and found where i made a mistake on a really complex step in the wiring. I wired the plug wrong. Had a hot and neutral swapped. :embarrassed::confused3: I know better than trying to do things like that when i am tired but I wanted to get it done. Wife goes to bed late so she can get the boy settled and I am waiting for her to be up and around so I can stand next to the lathe when she flips the breaker. Ed

From your diagram, there should be a starting larger capacitor across either A-B or B-C. The relay should drop this capacitor out once the motor starts. Then there are smaller capacitors between A-B and B-C that will change the phase with respect to incoming to simulate 3 phase.

That is above my pay grade. I just know it is supposed to work. Ed

Eric, the Alien hasn’t been seen in these parts for a while now!

No luck with the cat last night, trying again today.

Low 60s this morning with a sumptuous dry northwest breeze, high near 80 today. Man this feels great!

Gotta mow grass, visit Mom, call the bank, call the retirement administrator and find out why they see fit to take away six months of previous payments, just to repay 6 months worth, due to a technicality. Why not just do it on paper and save them fees and labor, and me the hassle.

Have a good day guys.

Good morning to all! Cool out this morning, low of 48°, humidity at 80%. Going up to 80°. The last 2 days the forecast has been for a "better" (highest) chance of rain for today and tomorrow. Now they say drier and less chance until Saturday ?? Do they change the forecasts in your areas on a 12 hour basis or is it just here?

Got real cloudy and dark threatening storm clouds. Local radar showed a big 'red' cell bearing down on our area......only got a light rain, total 1/10". I guess a little is better than nothing.

David and Sophie, stay safe and dry. Prayers sent.

Drew, don't get cramped up playing backstop....don't get your helpers angry...good chance for 'tar and feather' is present:laughing:

Have to get going to work, everyone have a great day. Prayers sent.

Good morning! 77˚ heading to 106˚ 44th day of triple digits this summer. Yesterday I did my new weekly experience - Senior boot camp. It was a combo of strength exercises, stairs and spinning. Temp was 70 inside. There was a tractor at the fitness center moving gravel and sand I was temped to volunteer but the 70˚ inside sure beat 100˚ outside. Maybe in the fall.

They have special going for September you can attend as many classes as you can, out of the 145 offered each week for only $60 for the month, what a deal! But I figured I can only attend 240 for the month because some of them overlap.

Hope you get no damage David and Randy captures the lion before the alien eats him.

Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 6:00AM. Partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 84F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

I'm confused, Ed. There should be four wires in the lead to the lathe: One for each of the three phases, and ground. No neutral, unless you wanna call the ground wire neutral, which some do but I don't think is correct. I'm not an expert, either, but probably know enough to be dangerous. Especially when I'm tired, made some big boo boos then... It does matter how those wires are connected to the forward/reverse/off switch on the lathe. There should be a diagram either on a name plate on the lathe or in the documentation that came with it. No documentation you say? Google is your friend. Those plugs can be confusing, too. Not always clear which end of the plug you're supposed to be looking at when referring to the diagram. And yeah, that can make things buzz, and spark, too!

Made some good progress on the saddle bag mounts yesterday, and have just one more piece to install. Might finish today.

First I have to clean up the rest of the big pine that fell across the driveway sometime yesterday. I didn't hear it go down, but I bet it made a noise! about forty feet tall and 18" through the trunk at the base, it broke off at ground level. Looks like it's been rotten for a while, and I've been noticing it leaning more and more. But it's in the easement, and the neighbor gets all bent out of shape when make improvements to maintain my access, even though that's specifically allowed in the deed to my property. :confused2: Anyway, first I learned about the down tree was at about 6:30PM last night when I went up to get the mail and found the driveway completely blocked. No getting around it, either. Dry as a tinder box all around, with tons of pine needles and dead grass and brush everywhere, so I was very nervous about using a chain saw on it. Tried to drag it out of the way with the tractor, but it was too heavy. Called a neighbor for moral support and an extra pair of eyes, then rigged up the 15 gallon sprayer on the side-by-side and met him at the tree. We moved/scraped enough dead stuff out of the way to make room for a cut, then soaked everything down with the sprayer. Got all the way through when the trunk jumped pinching the saw, and had to use the forks on the FEL to get it loose. Pushed the first ten foot chunk off the driveway, and was able to drag the rest down to the wood pile. I'll go up for the rest this morning, and clean up some branches that broke off during the drag, too. Life's full of surprises, isn't it?

Hang in there, folks, Friday's comin'!

Neutral to the phase converter? The ones i looked at are 240v. I would use a volt meter first to verify correct wiring.

If the lathe spins backwards, just swap 2 of the 3 3ph wires. Other than that, it shouldnt matter.

It only got down to 42° this morning. It started raining yesterday afternoon and rained into the late evening. It looks like we got over 3/4 of a inch. Today is going to be back in the 70's with some wind.

The neighbor wanted help putting a window and a door in a old sheep wagon he is working on. He wants to do most of the work himself. He is 83 and kind of slow and has a hard time walking. So it end up taking a few hours to get the job done.

We are running into town this morning to do some shopping. I'm going to try and put a light bar on the side by side when we got back if I don't get sidetracked.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

54°F and spotty fog this morning, going up to 80° today. I actually had to turn on some heat for the defroster to keep the windshield clear on the drive in to work. In August. Weird.

I'd be a little weary of 240v wiring, too, Ed. That's more than a little tickle if something is amiss. Good luck with it.

Hope David and his clan are riding out the hurricane with minimal affect.
