had breakfast at local greasy spoon, talked with a guy out in parking lot who came over to see my Audi. He had a Chevy SS, pretty rare car, and another motorhead. We talked cars for almost an hour in the parking lot. He confirmed my impression of the local Audi dealer owner, who owns three other dealerships. The word rhymed with Sick.

Am off to put grapple on the Kubota, put the chain saw in it, and off to other side of property where a tree came down in the hurricane.
Only a one footer, shouldn't be too hard to cut up in lengths and just pile out of sight.

rain had been forecast for today but apparently only cloudy and cooler, high of 83. Yesterday's 95 was just too much.

And Claye has snow. Lovely, beautiful, fluffy white snow. Not. It should only snow on Christmas Eve...
Though if I had a choice of snow or ice, that one is easy.

Sure is a different year here in SE Michigan. While there are some trees turning color. Most trees are still green.

Just starting my 3rd cup of coffee. I just finished making a big batch of Crawfish Etoufee; enough for me for at least 2 days; maybe 3. My wife doesn't eat it, and as far as I'm concerned there just isn't anything tastier. My local Ford dealer sent me an email a couple of days ago that my new car just left Spain (made in Valencia, Spain); should be here in 3 or 4 weeks. We have a VERY tentative deal, so I may, or may not take it when it arrives.:laughing: But I found a picture on the Internet of what it's supposed to look like, right down to the color, rear door option, and trailer hitch.

RNG, almost forgot. Yesterday's problem with mower not starting was after spraying some DeOxit on battery terminals. Lawn mower was slow turning over on some days. Checked voltage. Good at 12.6 volts. In a hurry I just sprayed some DeOxit on the terminals while changing oil earlier this week. Yesterday the indicator lights on dash barely lit. Tried my jump starter. Still no go. Removed both cables and did a through cleaning of post and terminals. Tried starting again. Almost instant start. DeOxit and lead connections must not be a good thing.
I did use Deoxit on the connection on my mail chime transmitter at mailbox. A day later it started working again. :thumbsup:

If the DeOxIt was sprayed on the battery terminals and there was corrosion already between them and the cable fittings, I doubt the DeOxIt would be able to do anything to help as it's not marketed as a penetrating oil, and the corrosion products that were providing the insulating effect are trapped between the two. Like you, I've had very good luck cleaning both the battery terminals and the fittings on the cable using a clean wire brush, then shooting them with some sort of aerosol cleaner that totally evaporates, *then* giving everything a good soaking in DeOxIt. It seems to keep corrosion at bay for a good long time. Where DeOxIt really excels is with that very thin film oxidation as found on copper or tinned wires. The wires look OK, but with the weak signals often found in modern electronics, the oxidation is thick enough to drop the voltage or act as a diode and prevent things from working.

Which reminds me, the Kubota side-by-side has been cranking very slowly, so it's time to clean the battery terminals and connectors on it, too. I'll never understand why Kubota put the battery directly in front of the back wheel where it is continuously showered in dust and debris that collects and holds water and makes a perfect environment for corroding the terminals. The did the same on the other side with the engine air intake, thus ensuring a steady income stream for replacement filters.:muttering:

We used to sprinkle baking soda on heavily corroded battery terminals then dribble real Coke onto the baking soda. Let it bubble for a minute, then flush with water. The terminals were then clean enough to disconnect and really clean the cable connectors and battery posts correctly.

A friend has a Transit down at the Sportmobile factory in Fresno being converted to a camper van. Supposed to be done this month. I'm not partial to the front end appearance, either, but I guess you can't see it from the driver's seat. :laughing:

You could'a offered that Audi in trade for the gentleman's SS, Drew. He might swap you straight across, but even if he wanted some cash on the side, it might be worth it!:laughing:

Anything with smoke on it is a great way to start the day, Eric. Especially when you can sneak a meal of it when someone's not looking.:laughing:

I awoke this morning to another black screen on the 17" MacBook Pro, and have been trying to fix it ever since. The last incantation worked for almost a week, but its power seems to have dissipated this time around. Even reinstalling the OS after a complete disc erase doesn't seem to be working, so I'll probably have to remove the disc and do it via an external USB interface. Ah, the joys of the Digital Age...:muttering:

We're supposed to get some fairly strong winds over the weekend, so yesterday I took down the shade tarps I had hanging on the west end of the house. One corner grommet had already been ripped out, and none of them look like they were installed very well, so over the winter I'll see about upgrading them somehow.

Then I installed the freshly painted engine guards back on the old BMW, and mounted the driving lights. I gave some thought to finishing up the wiring, but having a taste for something different, I elected instead to install the front fender. It could have been a simple matter of just bolting it back on, but I also wanted to put a stiffener on it to keep it from wagging back and forth in the wind at freeway speeds. Used the mill to locate and drill the necessary holes, and very, very carefully marked and drilled the needed holes in the middle of the fender. That came out well, but the silver color of the stiffener didn't look good at all. Decided to paint it black to match the frame and the engine guards I'd just painted yesterday. That went OK until I got caught with a little bit less light than I should have had and the paint ran. Maybe I can rub it flat today, but more likely it'll get blasted off and painted again, after it warms up enough and if the wind isn't blowing too hard.

While I'm waiting on that I'll see about finishing up that wiring...

It's 73° here with forecast of 88° and 50% chance of rain.

The long term forecast indicates we might finally see some real Fall by next weekend with expected highs in the low 80's and low 60's at night. Woo Hoo!

We added hog wire fence to the perimeter fencing on our ranch, shortly after we bought it 2006, but the hogs tore up the area between our front fence and our road Thursday night.







I started getting it all smoothed back out with my new 3 point chain harrow yesterday. Now needing some rain on it, then more harrowing.

Do you use one of those inside and outside battery post wire brushes, Rick? I got one from Harbor Freight and all the bristles bent over flat first time I used it. What a piece of useless junk! I found an old one among my mom's boyfriend's and dad's tools, and have been using that one ever since with no problems. I guess they really don't make 'em like they used to.:grumpy:

The low was 29° the morning, yesterday didn't get get out of the low 50's. Today is going to be most cloudy with a light wind in the high 40's. Looks like snow overnight with with up to 3 inches by morning.

Didn't do much yesterday, still trying to get stuff together for the November hunt.

Going up this morning to help a neighbor put a cover on his camp trailer. Not sure with the rest of the day will bring.

We got a heavy mist from the time we got ready to leave, throughout the OC trip last night, so we put the car away and took the daily driver, still had a good time.
Ocean City has installed electronic parking kiosks in their parking lots, what a pain in the hump!

RNG .....I've got one of those that I've probably had since the early 1970's. I agree on the HF ones. They're not great. I bought one a few years back when helping a friend change out a battery and was 75 miles from the ranch. We cleaned his cable terminals and battery posts once and threw it away.

I "saw" one of those helicopter tree trimming saws in action once. They use them along power line right of way in real hilly areas.

My tractor had a dead battery last night. Left the lights on. My jump starter didnt have enough to start it, so got the jumper cables and the ranger. Had to let it charge some before it would take off. So after all that, the sun was set, so i mowed the hill in the back and the bottom, then only 2 laps on the field before i parked it.

Gotta get busy..

Grandson’s team won 8-9 to 0, their fifth shutout of the year, Tanner scored a goal on a breakaway. My son in law is the coach, he was a very good high school player. They have 5 boys on the team that are nicknamed the Fab Five, they have been together for 3 years, when they are in the game at the same time they have not been scored on and have produced 32 goals this year, in 6 games. They are 6 and 7 years old. Coach won’t leave them in together very long at a time.

good morning all. 72 For the start, made it to 75 before the rain arrived, low tonight will be aUS-50 near the intersection of US-65 in Sedalia, MO. We had a slow uneventful trip here yesterday until we got close to the motel. Wasn't ready for the service roads, took about 15 min to find our way into the parking lot after dark. Today has been slow, not much to putter with and wife is napping. Tonight we go to wedding and visit with granddaughter. Tomorrow another 9.5 hour trek home, truck is nicer than van to travel in:cool2:
