Finally got that belt housing off the flail mower using the impact wrench and a 13mm socket. Was pretty easy once I got a good bearing on the nut flats. I'll probably replace the nuts. The stud threads had paint on them...I'll use anti-seize or something like that
Anyway, both belts were trashed big time. My guess is one let go and jammed the other since the rotor and dive pulley both rotate easily.
No markings on the belts such as PN's, but a bit of research indicates they're BP43 belts. I've ordered 2 at a local auto parts store and they should be in first thing tomorrow

However, any of you guys that have a Caroni TM 1900 flail mower and have replaced the belts, let me know what belt you used.

Roy .. you might ask over on the "Let's Talk Flail Mowers" thread.

Roy; My TM1900 uses BK43 belts (3 of them).

/ Good morning!!!! #133,763
Morning all! 40 today with wind and rain. Good day to work inside.

Been staying busy doing odd jobs around the house. Got some of the garden started yesterday in between the rain drops.
Today is our first day of no more required Covid restrictions.
We will be going out for breakfast shortly and then putter for the day till we go out for a birthday party in the evening.
Health wise my wife and I are doing ok. I go for results in the next couple weeks and she has a follow up soon to check if the glaucoma drugs are working.
We have adjusted to both being retired. Routine everyday life is working out.
All in all we are good.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Drinking good hot coffee. 36° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 63° with mostly sunny skies. Ended up with .79" of rain yesterday. Cold and damp all day. Little under the weather with beginning of a head cold. May be another conserve energy day.
Frogs must be having a disagreement.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good morning, low temp is 37 and high will be 61°F. Wind NNE 8 mph. Sunny!

Daughter in law is in the hospice and called Junior yesterday afternoon, she was thinking of doing a runner until she called the nurse to help her get into the wheelchair. Nurse helped her and when she (DIL) started to fall the nurse deftly swung her around and got her into the chair without her falling onto the floor. That was the deciding factor in her staying where we put her.

I am not sure what I will get up to today. Probably nothing.

Have a safe day all

63 and raining with temps dropping all day to 49. Cool.

Looks like the plants are smiling already from the rain. Randy and Buppies, hope you got your share...I know you've been dry, too.

Ron, I'm sure you can talk those frogs into being friends again.

Don, I didn't know you would have such big cornfields there. Looks good. Do you ever make your own corn chips?...I know store brands have oil.

L4N, prayers for your DIL.

Mostly, hope you get that trimmer running well.

BEF, on the topic of not listening...I scored pretty well yesterday...we were riding in my truck, my wife telling me a story, and then her attention was captured by something out the window...she then tries to resume the story, pauses, and asks, " what was I saying?" Well, I repeated word for word her last sentence and she smiled.

We tried a new Mexican restaurant yesterday and got in a few minutes before the lunch rush...the owner comes over to the table and tells us some stories, like his mama would make him chile rellenos for his birthday and other special occasions when he was a kid...no flour coating, just a roasted chile with chicken or cheese inside, and a tomatillo sauce on top along with a homemade tamale. Had to try it and it was so good. Then hiked for two hours to work it off.

There were only 2 belts when I pulled the housing off...and, reading a parts manual, there are supposed to be three. I'd ordered two, so now I wonder how many there should be...
Hmmm...

Thanks for the post!

56 and light rain, just under 1/2” overnight. Rain predicted for today, tonight and tomorrow, another 1.25”, but looking at the radar it looks like another hour or two will be the end. Unless we are gonna have more forming I don’t see much more. But I’m glad to get this.
I have a busy morning.
Hope everyone has a great day.

42° right now...high in the upper 50's
The belts I ordered for the flail mower should be in by 1000...and, per Trail's End's post (quoted above), might have to order another. That's a bummer. Since my mower had only two, that must be how it came from the factory.
If I need another, I'll order it today.
If the rain holds off, I'll mow the field after putting those belts on the flail mower. I do need to finish weed whacking around the split rail fence out front...I always hold off on this until the tulips under the fence die off...

If the rain does come (as predicted), I'll remove the Gator's windshield and start wiring those work lights

Good Morning.
It’s 45 and staying there all day in rain.
Davis says 2.52, Tempest says 4.01 so far. I’m inclined to believe the Davis.

I started by getting the blades changed on the progressive mower, the 1/2” drive Makita cordless impact made it pretty easy. I used all new hardware to put the new blades on,which helped to make it go smoothly as well.

IMG_6463.jpg

then into the shop before the rain started yesterday, but ran into a snag when I headed out for lunch. I guess there were some gusts ahead of the front. This was probably the easiest tree cleanup I ever did. I went back up the lane and put the 4-1 bucket on the Kubota, and grabbed the Makita cordless chainsaw.
Grabbed the trunk with the bucket, cut it off in the hedgerow to the right, and carried it off to the brush pile in one piece.

So it was a good day for justifying why I bought all those Makita tools. (Not that a tool purchase ever needs justification).

Rehearsal went well last night, I’ll check out the recording this morning, then make some speaker progress.

Roy, how many grooves are in your pulleys?
That’s how many belts you need. Keep in mind that when you use multiple belts, they should be from the same lot number so they are a matched set.

/ Good morning!!!! #133,776
It's 52F cold this morning and we have to change out a gear box on the twin spindle Bushhog that doesn't want to separate so we can get it out of the hole.

Our store carries Food For Life Authentic Sprouted Corn Tortillas. We either bake them or put them in the air fryer for tacos or corn chips. No oil. I have made corn chips in the dehydrator using frozen corn and chili powder in the blender them spread the mixture on a silicon dehydrator tray but that takes a day to make.

Drew since you are going to be on the school board take note:
The line of thundershowers that came through last evening spoiled some outdoor graduation ceremonies even some indoor ones. In Thrall TX they used their cell phone lights to light up the gym after power went out during graduation.

Good morning! 65˚F cloudy 60% chance of rain. The CA approved a .7 mile connector trail in the neighborhood so as soon as it dries up next week we have work to do.
Still keeping an eye on the bulletin board for a vehicle for Kyle. The latest did not fit his criteria. 99 Ford Ranger, 19K miles, standard transmission, red with red camper. $8,000.

3 grooves...damn, should have noticed that yesterday!!
But, only the remnants of 2 belts. There's no way a belt could have exited the housing, so if there was a third, it either disintegrated into powder completely, or there were only two belts installed from the factory. I bought this mower brand new and my guess this was a factory screw up.
I doubt I can get a matched set and I will have to order another one when I pick up the 2 I'd ordered yesterday

I can't believe I finally caught up! Been chipping away at it yesterday and this morning.

Wifey knows if she wants my attention, she'll call my name in a strong dialect and wait for eye to eye contact. :)

No, the fields will only grow corn. They harvest after the stalks turn brown and the corn is hard in late July. They then mow the stalks and plow them under. During harvest the corn husk fly through the air and sometime are taken many miles away by warm whirlwinds. They land in our yard every year and we are about 30 miles away.

Buckeye - you need us to put up some one way signs in your house, as a reminder to yourself.

Another .2" rain this evening.
I drove to Austin on 290 there, and back through New Sweden. Plenty of cornfields, but many are being turned into subdivisions to house people moving in from Ca. :(

Don, thanks for looking. I have bought a vehicle. But first, the story leading up to it. My '03 Impala (that has been lightly used for the last 3 years) got me home to Giddings last Wednesday, but I stopped at the store to get a prescription, and it wouldn't start up again. I expect the fuel pump. Almost 333,000 miles on the original fuel pump. I've ordered a new one. Local price about $110. Rockauto about $50 with shipping. I left the car there overnight, and in the morning a buddy helped me tow it home with a strap. It is waiting in the barn for the pump to arrive. After removing the dash to repair the passlock system the other day, it made it clear to me, I don't want an older vehicle with low miles. The plastic is all cracked up as soon as you try to remove it, and the rubber on the vehicle is old and bad...

The price of used cars is horrible right now. There are people getting into the game of flipping/speculating on used cars. Many don't have dealers licenses. Most of these people have names that you can't hardly pronounce. They'll buy a car, and try to turn it without registering it in their name, to avoid the taxes and it adds "an owner" to the history. Then there are dealers who buy salvaged/wrecked cars and make crappy repairs, and then flip them. Some don't come out and tell you the title is a salvage title, unless you ask. So, I developed a "feel" for pouring over hundreds of used car ads on facebook marketplace. If it seemed too good to be true, it is usually a car with an issue.

Mind you, I'm trying to find a car for close to the $4470 the insurance company has given me for my old high mileage Altima. Most everything half decent is up around $10K to $12K or more. (Decent in my little league that is.) I got online early Thursday morning and started looking. Early bird gets the worm, hopefully. I found a hail damaged 2015 Malibu LTZ with only 77,000 miles for $6000. I messaged him, he said he had owned it for 2 years, and that he bought it like that. The pictures online weren't of all that high quality and angles to see the extent of the damage. I did some research for the prices of a hood and trunk. Not too bad. So the wifey and I went to look. We met him at 2, near The Oasis restaurant on Lake Travis. The car looks like it was used for a rock chunking target practice. But I took the wifey and son for a test drive. It drove perfect and quiet, tracked true, motor purred...when we got back, I started talking to owner about what it would take to get it about 80-90% repaired. He said he had a hispanic guy offer to do it for $1500. He showed me the number of people on Facebook, offering to come buy it immediately. He put them on hold, because he knew we were driving there from Giddings (about hour and a half drive). After a bit of time, I guess he felt compassion for us, and said he'd take $5000. I said a prayer, and said I'd take it. My friend who helped me tow home my Impala offered to ride over Friday to go pick it up and look it over once more. I warned him about how bad the hail damage is. I can't imagine how big the hail stones must have been to put in some of the dents they did. Hood and trunk will be easy. It is the roof panel that will cost a bit of labor. I looked online at some videos done by adhesive companies to remove and replace the hood panel. You have to remove both front and rear glass, drill out the spot welds, and then a lot of prying and cursing under breath on a well clamped down tongue. I need to find a similar car in a junkyard to try and get parts from.

So I have nicknamed the thing: Crumpelt Steelskin for now.
