Reset the net work settings and changed the SIM card on the iPhone yesterday. So far it is working good.

Drew, we have more experience with depressions than we ever wanted to have from some of our kids. Getting help for them was very difficult both in the school system as well as outside school but we learned along the way to navigate.

Should dry up nicely today. I think I may lube the tractor to get ready for some dirt work

22º this morning. Only got a light spray of freezing rain, and a dusting of snow on top of that. Haven't been out driving, but I think I wound up between the Minnesota blizzard and the central Iowa ice storm. So much for the "Warnings", thankfully.

Gotta drive to Chicago for the weekend, for my brother's 50th wedding anniversary. Roads should be okay tomorrow.

Pump man showed up with his brother in tow right on time yesterday, and they had the pump swap done a little after noon... Very happy they found it before it failed on its own and flooded the pump house. They had everything they needed on their trucks. I can't imagine how many trips I'd have had to make to the hardware store to get that job done.

I'm a die hard do-it-myself guy, but when I do pay someone for a repair job it's good to see them show up (!) and it's done right. Good feeling, eh?

Good morning! Low of 15°, going up to 43°. Heavy cloud cover this morning, no precip expected though. The winds could gust as high as 35mph, otherwise 15-20mph.

Drew, they just sent a bill to the state senate to have "minimum speed limit" on the highways here. Similar situation, people doing under the limit in the left lane by 5-10 mph. That's when the other drivers and trucks are zipping by at 20 OVER the limit.
Another bill is to ban semi-trucks from the left lane on the highways except to pass. But, they must also maintain the minimum speed of the previous bill.

I hope they both pass.... there have been a multitude of serious and fatal crashes due to these issues.

RS, fantastic work on the sanding table and blast gates. Looking forward to hear how they work. I'm being inspired by your project and might attempt the same once I get more time out in the shop. I still have to get the dust collector that I acquired last summer hooked up. Now, I might just have more work!

RNG, not sure if you're wanting the snow or not.... hope you get some moisture either way..... Is the lake level back up?

daugen, when I had my Jeep Wrangler, I was consistently getting 24-25 mpg which is pretty good for a vehicle that is as aerodynamic as a phone booth. I put that down to smooth driving AND a K&N air filter. Only cleaned the filter once a year. Didn't replace them, just hose them off with water let them dry and re-oil and reinstall. I had the same filter from 2005 when I bought it until last year when I got rid of it.

As for the let lane Louises, if they cant see good enough in the right lane, then they shouldn't be on the road at all.

I tried K&N's many years ago and came to the same conclusions as Project Farm did, you might get a bit more HP but the filtration quality sucks.
When I change a filter one of the steps is cleaning the air intake and air box then I'll take a greasy or oily rag and wipe it down. With the K&N the amount of dust that got past it was terrible. I tried them on two different vehicles a few years apart with the same disappointing results.

63F and sunny @ 12:00, headed up to around 69F for the high for the day. Should be absolutely beautiful.

Plunge base for the router was hanging up at the bottom of the plunge so I contented myself with assembly work ... which did not go real well ... but still might be able to be salvaged.

Router will need taken apart and the internals of the slides examined and hopefully only need lubed up. Probably should pick up some CRC Dry Lube.

Relief holes that I drilled for the screws joining the top piece of the manifold to the middle weren't large enough and I split the top part in half, right down the center. Fortunately it was a really clean split so I smeared some Titebond III on the faces of one side and threw a few clamps on it and left it to sit overnight.

I checked out the middle piece that the Masonite parts are glued and stapled to and noticed that it's starting to split in a couple of places as well. Not sure what I'm going to do about that, will have another look at it today. Might drill some small holes along where it's starting to split and pour some glue into them and clamp it up.

In any event, I will be locating a slightly larger drill bit to drill out the screw holes before attempting to (glue and) screw the two parts back together.

One issue I ran into with my plan to use those black plastic 2 1/2" hose splices is that they are around $6 a pop and I would need a total of five. Instead I found PowerTec offered a clear 2 1/2" OD tube for $13 which is 36 inches long so I ordered that instead.

Also ordered a smaller vacuum hose kit/bunch of adapter fittings for some other tools as well as Bosch 1/2" x 1" top bearing flush trim bit. Was tempted to order an assortment of Bosch bits at what seemed like a really good price ($5 per bit) ... but then noticed that they were not the Precision Pro bits which are made in Taiwan (vs. their cheaper line which is made in China)

Agenda for today:

Get off the dime and place order for plywood at Menards.

Get cleaned up and get haircut.

Move old Craftsman pressure washer up to shop for refurb, along with some other items.

Get roll insulation that is still in the van moved around back and stowed in the basement.

Doctors appointment later this afternoon.

RS. Have had one of those saw guides more than 20 years. May not be a Swanson, but could be, 2 sections 50”, but the joiner piece has long been missing. Also have a number of holes at various locations drilled for attaching to things like a wall to use as guide to set tile. Very useful tool.

Yeah ... I should have bought one earlier, instead of the 50" HF one I did pick up.

Will be a lot more useful ... and a whole bunch cheaper than a Festool Track Saw ...

One thing I do need to look at again is that I was pretty sure that a Swanson rep had answered a question on Amazon about the dimensions of the guide and said it was .625" tall.

Don't think this one is that tall - more like .25".

That was part of my decision for selecting this particular one, as I wanted a guide with a fairly tall edge to run against.

A bit disappointing but I suspect it will be fine.

I've been having fun watching RS build his downdraft box.
I built a much smaller one in NC using scraps and some pegboard, worked great using shopvac,
then I started using it for painting and gummed it up, but it got a lot of use

Yeah ... I probably could have gone with something a little smaller ...

Dust collection on individual tools has gone from largely non-existent to pretty nice over the last 40 or 50 years but I still see a need to try and supplement it.

Everything out in the garage has now acquired a thin layer of fine sawdust.

Future project might to take the extra old belt-driven squirrel cage furnace blower I have up in the shop and build a wall mount for it and a box surrounding it which will take a standard sized filter.

Afternoon all!
Currently 24 and dropping to teens for the next few nights. We had 2 inches of sleet and freezing rain over night that I cleaned up this morning. Very slippery out there with more ice coming later today! Canceled my dentist visit and also the wife's doctor visit. Will reschedule to a later date.
Been staying busy in the wood shop. Have a few more projects done I will post. Spent a few days helping my cousin get his garage addition ready for the drywallers to show up Monday.
Other than that just trying to stay warm. We are both doing fine medically.

Greased the tractor. Used a tube of grease. It is ready for dirt work

Checked over the Sprinter. Need to order some more trans fluid to the Mercedes specs
Discovered that the turbo intercooler is leaking. So that will have to be changed. Took a chance that it was the hoses in or out of the intercooler that was leaking and changed those last time but it seems to come from the core of the intercooler. Located in the radiator section it is relatively easy to get to.
