Some of you may remember that over a year ago I registered with a carbon credits outfit...I had to bid on how much I must be paid not to timber my forest...once accepted, they sell the value of the carbon recapture, then pay me after one year, and after verifying my forest. I was accepted, the year is up, and I got my confirmation that the value was higher than I even requested. Not a lot of money, and I'm not a real fan of the whole practice, but it was easy enough, and I was curious how it would work after originally hearing about it.
Saw the exhaust from the ship and thought of Wngsprd and his carbon credits.

Off to Hilo town this morning to drop Subaru at port. Need to go by car wash enroute as I decided not to wash it myself in the rain.

Nice visit with the visiting nephew

4.5 hrs of plowing / moving snow today ... it will finish snowing in another hour and a half - i'll be out there again in daylight
I’m so jealous! We have only 4” or so of leftover snow from days ago.

Maybe I should load up the tractor and head out to California where they have seven or 8 feet!

39F, wet, with a rain shower @ 13:15, calling for a high of around 50F for the day.

Enjoying a cup of Woman-made™ coffee for the first time in a number of days. She isn't having any herself, but making the coffee was part of her morning routine.

I take it to be yet another good sign of progress. Yesterday I found her out in the kitchen at the sink washing dishes at one point.

Cleaned out the cat pans at her request and then made the trip down to Menards in Massillon and picked up 3 sheets of 3/4 Sande and 2 sheets of that 1/4 TigerPly Edge plywood and a couple of Plano small parts containers.

Was going to grab a couple of 4' LED lights which they had on sale for a stupid cheap price (a buck more than I paid for the 2' ones last time) but the folks had cleaned them out by the time I got there. They still showed being available with "Free Ship to Store" on the app so I went ahead and ordered four of them.

LED lighting is really getting to be "commodity" cheap.

Flagged down a young fella to help me get the 3/4 ply onto the cart, he didn't appear to be too enthusiastic about being interrupted from wherever he was headed with that pallet jack ... and didn't seem to have much of clue about what to do to actually assist.

After I got checked out and paid I slid over to the Customer Service desk and asked for someone to help me get it loaded in the van. He was there and they tried to tap him to assist, but apparently he picked up a splinter helping me get the plywood onto the cart so they had to call someone else up. Fortunately, that guy wasn't quite as clueless.

After we got things loaded up I found myself succumbing to the smell coming from the Philly cheesesteak wagon which was right there where we loaded and went ahead and ordered up. Was decent but only fair as far as cheesesteaks go.

Got 10 gallons of diesel at the cheap place on the way back to the house, saved 10 cents per gallon over what it was at the station down at the corner here by the house.

Once I got back I got the hopper and deer feeders filled, also one suet feeder while the diesel was being pumped out of the cans into the torpedo heater.

Amazon had dropped off the thermometer and pulse ox meter while I was out.

Woman was wanting some sherbert so I hopped back in the van and headed down to the Circle K. No sherbet available, but She was willing to settle for some Strawberry Hagen-Das so that's what I brought home.

After eating half the cheesesteak, I headed back out to the garage and got to work on making more slots. Got the last three slots across the width routed out and then started using the 2 piece 100" guide to route a slot along the length.

Noticed a good bit of deflection in the middle as I was routing the initial cut with the 1/4" relief bit and thought "that isn't good ... (Relief bit gets used to remove waste material and make it easier on the dovetail bit and make it last longer)

Then a light bulb went off as I realized "Hey - I have a solution for that ...":

IMG_2262 copy.jpg

Worked perfectly ... (y)

Ended up getting three slots done length-wise, which I think is just shy of half done for the slots running the length.

IMG_2263 copy.jpg

Ended up using the new vacuum hose and one of the adapters on the router to suck up the chips. Worked pretty good and let me forego putting on the clear plastic shield (which is starting to crack) on the front of the router which has to be removed every time you want to change a bit since it blocks access to the spindle lock button.

Knocked off after that and came inside and devoured the other half of that Philly before I hit the rack.

Today will hopefully be able to get the rest of the slots done.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday ... (y)

rswyan said, "Woman was up when I got up about an hour ago. Said She had been up since 09:00 and felt good when She woke up ... then took her Paxlovid and has started to feel yucky again. So She went back to bed."

I sure understand that. Hope it gets better for her soon.

Thanks.

Hope it does for you too as well.

Looking at that clamp, it’s surprising how similar it is to the clamps on my welding table.

Yup ... looks quite similar.

Instead of dovetail slots, I drilled a pattern of holes, and cut off HF bar clamps and welded them to pins to fit in the holes.

Local friend here bought a pre-drilled top from somewhere and built himself a welding table with it. Said it was very reasonable ... to the point that he thought it wasn't worth it to just get a piece of steel and do it himself.

Not sure what all type of clamps he's using with it.

He may have some of that type but I'm pretty sure he has some of the traditional "hold fasts":

My plan was to drill a 3/4" holes centered in every one of those squares that the dovetail slots create for either dogs or hold fasts.

After watching some videos on it not sure if I will still do that or not.

For one thing, it a whole lot of work.

OTOH, it would lighten up the table top some - which is both good and bad I guess.

Probably will do at least a couple rows of holes in line with the new vise.

32 and heavy frost, going to 55. Still warm for February.

Hope you feel better, Bird.

Then coincidentally, I did a more detailed survey of my forest yesterday to select trees that need to be removed for firewood (not many), and to mark certain specimen trees I want to keep an eye on.
If it helps offset your diesel fuel expenses, why not? 🤣😂

Calm between the storms. Had 4 days of rain... just cloudy today, then begins 3 days of rain... I feel like I'm back in CT again! Got the road touched up and some firewood in. 32º this am. Sheesh.
Thank goodness the first Canadian honkers flew by this am giving some hope of spring.

My FedEx delivery never showed, and FedEx took down the tracking. However my Thursday delivery is now scheduled for tomorrow, so I think they held it.

Good (Tuesday) morning. Overnight Low of 9.2C and it's presently 19.3C, calm and overcast.

Horse transfer to Paddock #1 went well... which means that I'll need to clean up Paddock #6 this week (chain-harrow & mulch).

Gees, February went quickly. It's the last (Official) day of Summer down here, but everything is 'green' this year and there weren't too many 'hide in the house' 30+C days so it's all good.

That's about it, take care all.

The snow storm that was supposed to start at midnight tonight is arriving early. Snow starting about 10P.M. and lasting until noonish tomorrow. I think you all know who will be plowing tomorrow afternoon.
Brace yourselves, I have tallied up the repair bills for the busted hydraulic line. Including the failed brazing of the line $2300.oo
$1000.oo of that was haulage to and from the repair shop (2 round trips). NEVER again will I try and mickey mouse a repair on that tractor. That cost me $726.oo including the haulage.

Taken some shortcuts on repairs is best when you do the work yourself. If you have to pay for full rates and transport you want to make sure it gets done right the first time and that usually means replacing more to make sure the customer does not return.

This customer will be taking his tractor to that shop for everything I can't do myself. I will still get my parts through the Kioti dealer, but the work will be done by a McCormick dealer. IF I had known that he sold McCormick, I would have bought from him in 2012 instead of the Kioti.

ell after 3 days of snow, and a ton of driveway plowing, I managed to make it to town and back, for errands and a counselling appointment.
at the dollar store I bought a new dog dish, a flower vase (identifies as a glass juice jug, therefore 50 % cheaper) and some kitchen items that needed replacing, filled the truck up with gas, picked up the mail
the worst part of the drive was the 2 kms from the driveway, down snow filled roads / hill, to the Highway. That stretch was bad going out, and slightly better coming back.
fed chickens and dog (likes the new none slide dish), and now determined to stay inside for the night.

praying that you all have a nice day, stay safe
