Good morning!!!!

Well morning all;
I spent my morning puttering around outside these weather guessers have quite the variance in their guesses.
I've seen 2-6", 4-8" and 8-12" with the 8-12 being bandied about quite often.
So I stuck my oil tank to see how that was doing as I haven't been using the coal this winter and my wife has been working
from home so the house is being keep warmer then it used to be. Got 19" left in a 48" 1000 gallon tank. So about 360 gallons left
out of the about 900 that it got filed to so used about 2/3's of that tank so far. I'll likely move the portable 300 over and transfer it if the
yard ever get froze good.
Then prepped the Branson for the worst forecast so we should get the least amount now.
Back blade and bucket off;

Blower and front blade on;

Now to read this forum then go visit with one of my brothers for a bit.
Everyone stay safe and enjoy
Looks like old man winter BIG surprise. (y)

Can you get another of those oil caps, KJC? If so, you might consider destroying the cap to remove it so as not to mess up the filler neck on the oil reservoir.

This would be a good plan, you could take a good look at the new cap, and possibly figure out what could be keeping it from moving.
Plus just having spent the money for a new cap might scare the old one into jumping off!

Popgadget, this is a bigger speaker cab than we've seen you make before, IIRC?
Looks like it will pump out some decibels.

I was going to ask you audiophiles your thoughts on the modern amplifiers that are relatively lightweight, but claim high wattage output? I could easily understand using them, having to lug them around for gigs. My old McIntosh weighs 94 lbs., rated at 205watts per channel conservatively.

Yes that is a dual 15” ported cab, that has no mid or high drivers, nor crossover. It’s intended use is for bass guitar amplification. The other ones in these recent pictures are 3 way cabinets with a 12” woofer. They are a full range cabinet that could be used for anything, but are less efficient the the large cabinet shown. That will be used with a less powerful tube amplifier.
Modern class D amplifiers with switch mode power supplies are quite good and very light weight.

I am a retired audiophile, all of my efforts these days go towards the performance of music rather than the reproduction. But the difference between entry level gear and stratospherically priced cork sniffer stuff is no where near as great as it was in the past. Especially when you consider the vast majority of program is relatively low resolution streams and MP3’s.

To that said, I sold all my vintage Mac stuff to collectors that valued it far more than I did. Think multiple times what I paid for it new. That brings up a point, if you worked on your amplifier yourself you might seriously devalue it to a collector, regardless of how good of a job you do.

Just had what maybe the chance of a good CS experience.

I did a good sized online order with Lowes, paying with Paypal.
Not many minutes later I got an email cancellation due to payment.
A trip to Paypal showed the transaction as Cancelled. Checked the credit card used and no problem.

So I redo the order and resubmit. Received both PayPal and Lowes confirmation emails. Phew

Then I get a Fraud alert from Chase. Fortunately they allow me to confirm order rather that just cancelling my card.
Back to Paypal site and multiple transactions, but balance correctly.
Back to Lowes and they are showing both orders, but for some reason 1 item was split off to separate payment but still same order.

Back to Chase and my CC has been hit 18 times as pending charges. Balance now equals order x2.

Dreading I’d have to call Lowes and waste hours on hold. Lo and behold I get call from Lowes CS for clarification on the double order which both show as active in spite of their email cancellation.

Very nice CS guy cancelled right order and assured me the correct order would be ready for pickup.

Lowes confirmation email received shortly after.

Phew!!!

Good Morning!!!! 40F @ 7:15AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 59F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday it looked like we'd have a few days of sunshine starting next week, now it's rain starting tomorrow for the rest of the 10-day.

At least you have some legal recourse to the barking, Mike. Around here it's an ag area, and the barking is considered acceptable farm noise. I can complain to the owners, but it does no good. It's about 1000 feet away here, too, but it's right next to their house. I don't know how they get any sleep. Maybe they're just doped up every night?

Stopped by the supply store to look at the replacement roof tile while I was in town yesterday. The tile was a perfect match shape wise, but how anybody could mistake the color for brown is beyond me. Especially since I sent the salesman a photo of what I had.

I did manage to find a Ford dealer yesterday that would submit a custom order, but he was thinking it would be four to six months before it could be filled. And two more dealers said that the ordering window had closed for the year. So I started looking through inventories already on lots, and while I can't find the exact truck I want, I might be able to get close. I also found an article this morning that said Ford's CEO was going to stop sending vehicles to dealers that add anything to the MSRP. Maybe that's why so many dealers don't have inventory. My local dealer didn't have a Transit on the lot that was for sale, but he had a $100,000 Mustang in the showroom, so that correlates pretty well.

TGIF gang!
I could probably jury-IG a breather cap with some hose and hose clamps f worse comes to worse - I just don’t want smegma falling down into the engine while destroying the cap!

Not that type of oil cap… I will have to take some pix when we get up there tomorrow. It is a combination canvases breather/fill cap, and it looks like it *should* just slip on and off. It does not appear to be a bayonet mount, just a friction fit.

this photo is NOT my tractor, just the same model, just as an interim image to give some idea :

I used to have a Case 430, and yes, the breather cap just pulled off. There are a couple of flat springs in it that kept tension on the neck. I would be careful about pulling too hard to protect the rocker cover. Maybe split it with a wiz wheel.

What I was thinking of doing was taking a length of paracord and making a doubled loop about 40”, then folding that in half and making a bridle with two opposing cow hitches under the breather, and then using a come along and maybe a heavy hammock spring from the shed rafter to apply sone upward pressure, and once there is steady tension on it, start lightly tapping on the sides with my grandfathers old 4oz ball-pein to hopefully micro-shock it loose. here really is not enough room to get the Dremel in there with a wheel, it would have to be a carbide end-mill and perforate it, then connect the dots. . . But that is a lot of metallic fragments right next to the oil fill. . .

When you send us a better picture you will get a lot help from here

I gave my 430 to a friends son, it is not far from here, I could pull off the cap and take a picture if you think it would be helpful.

Question:

i *think* my 430 has a live PTO opposed to a “standard” PTO, because it has a long handle on the left side of the hood and the little pull ring handle behind the seat.

I could use some tips on operating it - I am still learning tractor operations, but at some point really soon I am going to have to do some brush clearing and I don’t want to kill myself or break anything - thanks!

That would be a HUGE help - but please don’t make a special trip just for me, next time you go is ok. It isn’t like I have to do it tomorrow, the oil is full and I a, not running it all that much right now other than to keep the battery charged 👍

Kilroy, a slide hammer with attachment that can get under the cap would likely be the ticket to get it off. Auto parts stores will lend them out I think if you think you want to try it

If it won’t come off with gentle persuasion (vertical tension and light tapping) I may consider it… but first I want to check what the other end of that neck attaches to! It would be a heckuva thing if the cap doesn’t budge, but the other end of the tube does 🤣😂🤣

This is a picture of my old tractor, look at the tube that the cap is on. Any brute force effort will not end well for the rocker cover.
I will work on getting a picture of the cap.
