You're probably right, at least long-term. I guess if they give more people access to the hobby, it's a great thing, and maybe they'll graduate to better dedicated options later on.

I think the only real flaw with the machinery itself, issues of work flow aside, was that they used a lot of aluminum castings. So the older and better/heavier models still around today often suffer from fasteners and levers that have been frozen in place from galvanic corrosion.

Over 100 yrs of family pictures and videos. I’ve scanned all my parents and grandparents pictures and slides, and I take several thousand a year. Now you got me wondering, are there a million?

old line company Shopsmith has declared bankruptcy and going out of business.
They made all kinds of woodworking equipment but were known for their multipurpose lathes.

Ct, 44 to start going to 56. Looks to be a nice fall day, and it also looks like work today.

Yesterday I got a new DX Engineering OCF dipole that will cover 40m , 20m , 10m and 6 m. The balun can handle 3000 watts , unlike my current OVF dipole that can only handle 300 watts. Looks like I might need a linear amplifier on the station add on list
I spent a good deal of time out in my side yard yesterday afternoon getting the antenna up in one of my taller shagbark hickory trees. But I have one leg on the dipole that is not correctly hung. I ran out of daylight and will need to do more work later today or Friday. I do have the center up at about 70 ft so that was one accomplishment
I’m looking at the Elecraft KPA500 amplifier. With the proper setup you can reliably get 600 watts output from this unit. Presently I’m only at 100 watts so a fairly hefty increase.

Drew sorry to hear about all the issues with your camper. The dealer obviously wants that money in his pocket and not yours.

I remember the early days of linear amps, truckers would put them in their semis and blast insane
wattage out on the CB's. Reports of hearing guys in trucks on nearby highways coming through tvs and radio speakers.
makes sense to have a linear if you want to go far but am sure there are diminishing returns with power.

Now I just wonder if Bill was sitting on a linear under his seat for a few years...

Morning all, 40 going to 61 and cloudy.
Did a little shopping and picked up meds after work, dayjob ends late, sun sets early, bad combination.

For water UV I have a GDS 8 system from 07-ATS Residential Ultraviolet Systems | ATS2
Just needs a particulate filter in front of it and some isolating valves. Changing lights is easy as the bulb rests in a glass tube and the water goes through a jacket around it.

Neice is in Portugal looks like she is having fun.

Looks like only around a quarter million pictures and videos, but that was just a rough check at a couple directories. Here's one of dad 100 yrs ago. My brother scanned some of these pictures years ago, and we haven't found the originals since.

Drew, how old is your pressure tank?

I've got 2. A 100 and a 150. Back when I had the Cobra DX 200 it was 30 watts on AM and 100 watts on SSB, right out of the box. I wanted the guy that tuned it up for me to bridge the two sets of finals. He wouldn't do it.
I could talk from Manitoulin Island,ON to Lake Station, IN and sounded like I was right outside his shack. He was giving radio checks to local truckers and guys just passing through, so I hollered for a radio check on AM. I didn't need a 'boot' then and left it at home.
I ran a single 'oil coil' antenna and at the end of the season the oil in it had a brown tint, it started life clear. That antenna could handle 1,000 watts so they said on the packaging and 1 full wave length.

Good morning TBN crew. Rained on/off all day yesterday and overnight. Still is lightly falling at 40 degree's this am and today's high is 42. I built a mini-pintle hitch for a our atv trailer yesterday. I am packing and organizing to get to camp when dearest gets off on Friday. RS,, if you go with two 300 gallon tanks, don't forget to plumb them both together at the bottom with at least 1.5" pipe and vent them both at the top. I wouldn't keep them outside unless they were in a well insulated building and the tanks themselves were well insulated. Every time I have been to Ohio in the winter time I froze my tail off.

Or a buried 1000 gallon if the room is available. It could even be by the well with a small pit for the booster pump or suspend a small submersible.

Chances are slim to none ... at least without burying it at some depth. Something I wouldn't be inclined to do for a whole variety of reasons.

Frost line here is around 36" or more.

Part of the reason why I was looking to sink the fence posts as deep as I could.

Your well will be adding 54F water, and you keep drawing water from it, so with a little insulation it might be ok.

Very doubtful.

Average low temps towards the end of January are in the high teens for about a week or so.

And average lows are below freezing starting sometime in November and typically stay there until late March.

While it isn't necessarily a frequent occurrence, we can have low temps below zero for several days at a time.

I don't know how close you are to Lake Erie and the storms.

We're at the very southern end of the Lake Erie snowbelt, typically get 40" to 50" of snow per year on average.

Alberta Clippers are a regular feature here in winter ...

Plumbing together at the bottom was the plan, although I was initially considering using 1" PVC .

Though looking at the suction/inlet side of the booster pump I see it is 1 1/4" ... so 1 1/4" (or better) would probably be the way to go ...

Don't want the pump starving for supply.

The the lids on the 16" manways are vented ...

I still remember running a load one night heading out of NW Ohio into IN. Outside temperature hit -24F ... heater in the van couldn't keep up. Was painful.

Another 4+ hours of mowing progress yesterday. A good long day today and I could finish this round. This will not only depend on the wx but 3 sloped areas that I will need trial and error to address as they are usually avoided but part of my rationale for this mower. Plus 2 other special attention perimeter areas, 1 a continuation of tree/old fence line and 2 edge of property that is a high stream bank. Actually got a wheel over the edge years ago and had to get Sophie pull be back with the truck. Hmmm, might not really finish today . Better to be slower and safe.

Otherwise no plans. H&F cancelled as John came back from family reunion with a cold.

Good Morning to you !

Interesting read on your well issues. I went through all of this back in early to mid 90’s. I originally had our well pounded back in 1982 when we built our house. Around 94 or so my wife Kathleen is complaining that by mid morning we are running out of water. With 2 pre teens and showers and wash I had to do something. The original well was pounded through bedrock to a depth of 125 ft. I called in Connecticut Well and they brought in a rotary drill. We went down to 450 ft and still not getting much in the way of results.We were only getting about 1 1/2 gals per minute. They brought in their fracking equipment and we managed to increase that to 3 GPM. But our static level was at about 40 ft. We hung the new pump at 400 ft so 50 ft from the bottom. That gave us over 350 ft of reserve water so 350 x 1.5 gals per ft or over 525 gals of water before we run dry. We have never run dry since redrilling the well.

Interesting story.

Found out the other day that our new neighbor's well was done by our driller ... who subbed the job out to another local driller (who we have also used in the past) who has a rotary drill rig.

Our driller only has a percussion rig, said the guy with the rotary did in one day what it would have taken him 3 days to do.

9" borehole with 72' of 5" casing, total depth 160', static level @ 70', produces 12 gpm.

Depths are fairly typical for this area.

As I understand it from our driller, he doesn't like to go much deeper as you run the risk of running into bad water. That's from memory from a conversation we had quite a few years ago.

Yes you are correct on rock in New England, everything is rock out here .
The just of my story is that the fracking did clean the veins in the well to a point where a noticeable increase in in flow occurred.
