Well its not the tax payers fault S C is in bad shape money wise!My wife and I are both retired she has diabetets and I have heart disease ,bypass and now pacemaker. We sent two kids to college and tried to live our life right we paid taxes, and worked same jobs until we retired. Now on a fixed income we have to watch our money very cerefully .When we shop we look for the specials and deals in everything we purchase, with no help from SC.We maintain our home pay utilities buy our groceries drive older vehicles but we get no break! And each month it seems we have more going out than coming in.When we do go to the geocery store we are uplifted by the wonderful things SC is doing ! There is usually one or more couples with gold teeth and gold chains around ther neck talking on a cell phone while buying groceries at random steak crab legs etc. They check out with a gift card from you got it SC! Then load their bounty in a new Lexus!

Oh yeah...right up the street from my office is a government run daycare for the "poor people". Burns me good when I see a new Hummer or Lexus dropping off their kids...

I have never paid property taxes on tractors or equipment in my little hay business. As long as it is being used for farming purposes

Doesn't matter what you use a tractor for in SC, no property tax.

Seems like the issue is "Sales Tax," not property tax. When it comes to taxes, SC is a greedy state, always has been, always will be! My understanding is that if you buy a tractor/equipment for a farm, then you are exempt. Otherwise, it's full 7% Sales Tax here where I live.

However, since a tractor, or ATV, or Golf Cart, etc., is untitled, it is also unregistered, therefore, no Personal Property Tax. In this state, Personal Property taxes will "rip you a new one": Easily $1500 on a new Tahoe and almost $200 on a 10-year old truck.

When I drive around, I am surprised at all the newer vehicles on the roads around here. That's a lot of property tax dollars each year shelled out. It looks like a lot of people would be driving older vehicles to keep their taxes low if they are in a bind. I drive an old 88 Buick to work and the tax is only around $40 a year on it. I bet there's a lot of folks driving around without insurance or not even paying the taxes on their vehicles, (cover the year part of the plate up?).

Hi Buntrock...All is well over here. It's nice hearing from you. Hunting season is in and I've been out at the hunt club a lot. Mostly chasing hogs. I need to get out your way more, though. I talk to Hugh all the time on the phone and he sometimes comes out to the club or over to the house. He enjoys turning a wrench in the workshop.
