Goose neck vs bumper pull

I remember commercials on TV where a Chevy was pulling a Dodge up a rocky mountain and had a Ford truck strapped to the top of his bed. Or was it the other way around? :D

I know. Gets pretty crazy. As I said, I don't care who won. It was just exciting to find ourselves in such a race. Worst part was my Son was behind us in an '04 Dodge Cummins pulling similar load but was so far back that he couldn't get involved.

I remember pulling up to a light with new 1990 350 1/2 to and a Ford 1/2 ton pulled next to me. We went for it on the green and I don't remember who won, but it was close and seemed like it was in slow motion we were going so slow. That is compared to the new diesel pullers we have now. I have an 02 duramax that I really don't think that 350 Chevy would outrun. I pull a 5th wheel camper that loaded puts the truck and trailer at around 23-24000# I gets up to speed quite well but I really hate to keep the foot in the gas any long than it necessary. I am afraid I would pop something. That us unless a Ford pulled beside me

Compare your 02 Dmax to today's diesels. It's not even close. My 06 F350 with 200Hp of mods doesn't hold a candle to my neighbors new F350. It has 440 HP and 880 FT TQ from the factory.

I gave my 03 5.9CTD To my cousin 200,000 and would still pull a mountain. I bought a 2014 ford 6.7 powerstroke dually only because it had the largest fuel tank, lol. My 5.9 got similar mileage to the 4x4 2014 Cherokee that we use for our daily driver. I like both diesels ;)

Trailer pulling story. I was pulling my 6800# GN trailer with 2 Jeep Buggies onboard with my '00 7.3 Powerstroke. Friend of mine was pulling same size trailer with a Jeep Buggy and a Polaris RZR onboard with his '06 6.0L Powerstroke. On an accessable 4 lane hiway. A GM Duramax truck pulled onto the roadway ahead of us pulling same size trailer with a Bobcat CTL onboard. My friend was ahead of me. We caught the Duramax before he could get up to speed and started passing him. My friend got ahead of him and pulled back into the right lane. I was coming behind still in the passing lane. I noticed the Duramax was in the throttle and smoking. Ahhhhhh,,,, the race is on. The Duramax pulled into the passing lane ahead of me so I had to match his speed. We slowly crawled past the 6.0L. After he got past my friend the Duramax pulled to the right lane. Him and I raced for about 20 miles. Took me that long to get past him. I looked at my speedo as I crawled past him and I was going 87-88 mph. As I passed he gave me the thumbs up and courteously flashed his lights when I was clear to move to the right. My friend in his 6.0L was at least 1/2 mile behind by this time. The two Powerstrokes were stock. Pretty sure the Duramax was too. Hope so anyway or he would be very disappointed. :)

Nice Jeeps ovrszd. I'm mainly a mud racer, but I have some friends with buggies and they are a lot of fun. Here's one of my similar towing stories.

I guess it's left over from my street racing days, but it doesn't take much to get me going either. Just after daylight one Sunday morning me and a few friends were on the interstate still trying to make it home from an all-day/half the night race. I was driving my 250 (7.3 Bully Dog equipped) pulling a 28ft gooseneck loaded with my race truck and all the other usual stuff you haul around (2 sets of tires, generator, fuel, etc.) when I hit a single lane construction zone which was about 3 miles long. I slowed down to around 60 and wasn't paying a lot of attention, but just as I was exiting the construction zone I noticed a 3500 Duramax pulling a dirt track car coming up on me fast (he obviously didn't slow down).

Just as we exited the zone, he shot to the inside lane and started around us. My buddy (still half asleep) looked of at me very surprised and asked "You going to let him do that". At the time, I was tired and didn't really care, but true to my nature .... started thinking. He managed to get his trailer just pasted me when I decided not today my friend. For the next mile or so it was on, somewhere around 90 I pulled back up beside him and started to pull away. Neither one of us lifted and I pulled him a truck/trailer length before he finally did and fall back. I don't know, but I'm sure we broke triple digits.

My buddy (still half asleep) asked "Changed your mind". I said yeah, got to thinking that the very first thing that guy was going to do Monday morning was tell all his friends at work how he blow past this Power Stroke and there was no way I was going to let that happen.

No doubt. Ten years ago it would have been considered insane for the manufacturers to offer the kind of power they offer today.

Just got a quote on a 10K BP trailer with a weight of 3000lbs only leaves 7k for payload with the Ontario limit on G and D license yet I can hook up my 16,000 pound 40' fiver RV no problem, go figure.

I went ahead and got a commercial license, just in case some state trooper thinks he is behind in his quota and tries to get me in a grey area. But I don't get hassled as I have farm tags on my trailers. Do Y'all have anything for ag use exemptions to the G & D license requirements?
hugs, Brandi

Yes the load requirement is lifted when hauling husbandry equipment, so if hauling hay or a tractor with a hay rake I would be ok, ;)
