GOOSENECK - TWO QUICK QUESTIONS

Wow, what a deal! Why can't I find those? :(

I don't know what your tractor/loader/backhoe will weigh. I am assuming it is far below the GVW of the trailer because I don't think your truck is rated for anywhere near that weight. Even one ton duallies aren't rated for a 21,000# trailer.

Depending on what your truck can handle over the rear axle, you might want to move the tractor back some to get a better balance. If you have any questions as to your truck's ability to carry the load, it would be worth getting the weight checked on your rear axle at a weigh station. You don't want to have a tire blow out while towing something like that.

Make sure you have the brakes checked over.

I was bringing home a rental mini excavator this afternoon and some jerk (to put it mildly) pulled out in front of me in a 55 mph zone. I had to stand on the brakes.

Yes, the GVWR is 21,000 lbs. I could not find an attached spec tag on the trailer when I bought it so I called Zieman in SoCal and with the attached (welded) serial number I got that GVWR over the phone. I put new tires on it, matched what was there-7.50-15, 14 ply rating, DOT OD57, Flange Guard. These are very heavy split rims, a thing of the past but in very good shape. The trailer has a steel diamond tread deck and electric breaks with a battery operated break-away system and there is no major or minor rust, some surface scale and very little of that. I bought it on E-Bay for $1400.00 and it was located about 15 miles from my house so I got a chance (several) to inspect it.

What are you pulling it with? The max trailer weight on a Chevy or GMC 3500 diesel dually, for instance, is probably between 16,000 and 16,500 lbs. In some states, you could be in violation for overweight - not that the load is overweight, but that the trailer GVRW is in excess of the manufacturer's stated capacity. You need to check with your state LEO folks to find out the requirements.

Congratulations on your deal with such a super find. Good luck with it.

Here's what I have.
I put my box blade in front of the tractor and I'm hooked up to my KK tiller. It all fits but it's close. your tractor will be a bit longer than mine. My trailer is 16 x 7 14,000lb gross.
I wanted an 18 footer but I would have had to go to tandem dual at lots more money and not a lot greater payload. (1500lbs

I had a 2004 Chevy 3500 dually crew cab that was able to be licenced for 28,500 combination weight, my new F450 is licenced for 33,000.
You just have to make sure you have combination weight on the truck.

A lot of the 2004 and new chevy 1ton duallies diesels come out of the factory with ~ 26000lb towing. My 2004 3/4to extended with the small 6.0l is rated at about 11000.

You mean 16,000# towing, They are rated for about 26,000# max GCWR.
