Nice pictures. I bought a set of three bolt on hooks from Ken a little over 1 1/2 years ago. They have served me well. Great service.

Saw this thread and was interested in these hooks. Got any contact info for Ken ?

Another use for the hooks is anchoring a carry-all to the bucket (via a chain and some quick links) as ersatz forks. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the bottom cross piece & can pin it in place using the hole that was drilled in the bucket to pin on a hitch & ball.

I saw something similar in a forum post but couldn' t locate it to give credit.

Is that a single walled bucket on the JD?
My 4:1 is double walled, I wonder if adding the Bolt ons would not work as well.

Tony, check the FAQ page-the Bolt on Hooks are NOT recommended for the HD double walled buckets. And yes, the bucket on his 1026r is single walled.

Thanks kennyd.. I should have spent more time on that website. I would have stumbled on to the FAQs section.

No problem Tony, I will be happy to clarify any other questions you may have (;

Sorry if this is obvious but if you pulled from the center of that short chain as shown in your picture, the side load on your hooks would be many times larger than the pulled load, depending on the geometry once the load is applied.

The loading is similar to that urban legend about two next door fraternity buildings that stretched a heavy rope between a window on each building, hung a keg of beer at the midpoint and it pulled out one of the window frames. The story may be fiction but the free body diagram isn't.

I always questioned why people put two hooks on thier bucket as picking things up from the middle of the bucket puts an even load on the bucket and pulling or picking up from one of the sides seemed like a bad idea.
Now that I see the chains holding the big stump and the forks i can see that ones on the outside are a good idea for those uses.
As for picking up things I still would prefer the hook in the middle and a single chain. I agree with jmc that pulling from the center of the chain attached to the two hooks puts too much side load on the hooks. From someone with a construction background that is just a bad rigging practice.
I'm sure kennyd has another hook for the center. :)
