Like I said its cosmetic damage and does not warrant replacement. But it still makes me mad it happen, and to the person who blames me for not letting him peel the paint off my rims , well I care about things like that you don't thats good for you but the only mistake I made was leaving that kid alone with my tires.
I went to the dealer today mostly concerned about the plow deal. I thought the 2300.00 was for a brand new plow and front mount.
Turns out the plow and the front mount were out in the weather for a long time..the plow was not too bad but the mount would have to be repainted.
Said it would be well over 2500.00 if they ordered a new one.
I told the salesman the whole story about the gash he said I should talk to the service manager. My main concern at this point was why can't they get me a new plow for 2300.00, not the tire.
I did see the kid and said to him you put a gash in my tire he basically said so what, worst attitude you have ever seen, said the yard man did it, and did not care in the least. I thanked him for his consern and he said no problem, called him a piece of s**t and walked away. I was pissed off about the kids attitude and the fact they didn't have a new plow. I called another dealer right from the salesmans office who said he can get the new plow for 2400.00 by Friday I drove 50 miles to leave a deposit, only to find out the front hitch is back ordered and won't be in until February. They couldn't tell me that over the phone. I drove back to the first dealer and bought the plow for 2100.00. The tire never came up again because I didn't feel like saying ok now that I finally got the plow lets go over to the service manager and start all over again - I had enough for one day.

Here are the pictures of the tire:

Like I say, I've got nothing against a shiny tractor and I'm serious, we'd love to see some beauty shots of your machine.

Ok a flame is coming here...I can deal with it....

But....

Waxing the hood of a tractor, I can sort of get it...a little, especially the BX guys. The B series, I'm starting to wonder, L series and up...no excuse. Washing yeah ok I get that.

But waxing the rims??? I'm just gonna have to stop typing now...bye!

:D :D :D

Wait...I can't, ....no I'm stopping...delete button... :D :D :D

Look, folks have all sorts of 'show' items. Cars, motorcycles, guns, knives, and especially antique tractors. They like them shiny and new all the time. Guns that never get shot. Cars and bikes that ride on trailers. Knives in glass cases.

And heck, I have just hated watching my new expensive tractor get a ding, here and there. Gobs of grease all over the place. Little hints of rust on the gray parts. Diesel smoke on the right front rim. A stick shoved through the radiator...etc etc.:D And yes, I rinse mine off after most usage. Wash it from time to time. Waxed the hood and fenders once. Probably time to do it again. Doubt I'll wax the rims, they're pretty scratched up....but I just might, just for the wackiness of it.

The thing is, that if you have a tractor that you want to keep as a show piece, or even just looking brand new, that's great, its yours, do what you want with it. But you are going to have to limit its use...which is one thing I cannot do. Its a tool and I'm going to use it to its full potential...and often beyond...ever used a wrench as a hammer? You are also going to have to warn anyone working on it that it is a show piece. You can't just say you wax the rims...that probably isn't even going to register as English in the minds of most mechanics and shop boys. You've got to explain you want it looking better than new....that you do not put scuffs on your tires, etc.

And if that's how you want it, I'm all for it. But most folks aren't going to see it that way. And they are going to think you're a nut job. And if you call them a piece of excrement...then they'll be right.

I'm still marveling over a 30 year old being called a "kid":D
Ficord must be 90!
He's lucky the "kid" didn't deck him when called a piece of s**t, might just have had a matching gash on his head:cool:

Thanks Larry your one that gets it .
Its Not about the Tire Its about people with bad additudes!! I'm surprized that you guys never ran into anybody like that before.
Yeah a 30 year old thats still a kid with a bad additude who will always just fill tires because of his additude , READ some people get it others don't.
Yeah the tire filling kid is the good guy here and I'm the bad guy.
You either get what am talking about or you don't If you don't keep talking about the scratch and waxed rims. It only shows you can't read or understand. Now I have some waxing to do and I can't keep comforting you guys that have nothing better to do then comment without reading. If you don't get it you don't get it stop beating your head aginst the wall.
Guys I didn't make a big deal about the 1/4 inch deep scratch as you call it.
Your right if it happens while your using the tractor oh well.
But it happen because that person didn't think it was a big deal to him so he can treat it the way he wants and what ever damage happens Oh well.
Just like the other poster " people who get all bent over minor things that really dont matter in the function of the machine" so this guys attitude is the same as the kids Hey as long as it still works I can cause any damage I want as long as it still functions.
I didn't go and get the kid fired, I didn't go and demand a tire or money.
I asked the kid well 30 year old did he know he did it.

Yeah so what if i did so what, that was his response then the yard guy did it.
Not gee sorry about that.
All I posted was should I say something or just forget it.
I didn't know I would get all this advice over it..

Every one else posted what they would do and your acting like I wrote all them.
My first post I asked what should I do , My second post I talked to the Kid only because I seen him.
If you were there the next day and just happen to see the kid would you just say Hi Or would you ask if he knew .
His response and attitude was wrong and so is the other poster mechanic .

I own a used car dealership/ Garage for 28 years we do all repairs on American and Foreign and cars and light trucks Anybody would be fired in a minute if they had the attitude of these guys.
We don't have the mind set in my business that as long as it still works we can cause any damage we want. Whether its a car . a boat a farm tractor if its not yours and your working on it treat it with respect.
don't assume that just because its a tractor and you don't care about any damage the owner won't care either.
Remember everyone else posted what they thought I should do .
I posted what I did and that was not to make a big deal about it . So please don't read anymore into it then what I actually did.
And just for your information I have put 201 hrs on my tractor since January 2008 and that tire damage is the worse thing that happen to it 10 months of use and it still looks brand new.
So you can use your tractor without damage , but if someone is going to damage my tractor I want it to be me not the mechanic working on it.

I can say that it's hard to get a good person. Real hard. In fact, it's gotten so hard that many punks with the same attitude as the "kid" can stay employed. It's a shame, but a fact.

I selected the above quotes from your post, because they sum up nicely the center of the issue. Especially the last one! Battle scars should have tales of valor attached to them! (Wanna hear about the dent in the hood from the downed tree that flew over the FEL bucket?)

Ficord, I agree with everything you have said.

The only thing I disagree with is the degree that you got upset. It's normal and OK to get miffed over damage, shoddy workmanship, and bad attitudes. Just try not to go over the top with it, and you're better off in the long run. 10 years ago, I would have done just like you did. Now days, I would have shook my head and frowned, and kept right on trucking. If the people at the dealer were considered friends, I would have told them about the worker's attitude in a non-confrontational way.

I agree with you Ficord. That kids a punk. Waxing the wheels is ok too. I live near Front Royal Va and have a BX24. It's parked outside under a $300 canvas canopy. I trust you so I'll give you the key so you can move it out for more room. What kind of wax do you use. I'm kinda perticular about my wax. I'll have the beer ready too. What kind do you drink?:D:D

Seriously though, I was changing some tires on a high end car one time... Mercedes... one that cost more than I made in 5 years. Had very nice wheels too. A bunch of customers were outside my bay checking out the car and watching me work. I was real nervous about this car and the people watching. I was about 18 I think. I've changed thousands of tires and this car was just making me nervous. The cost of one rim was more than I made in a month (in case you havn't guessed yet, tire busters don't get paid much). Anyhow when I was done I noticed it had taken me over an hour and a half to change four tires. My average was about 10 minutes. I wiped off all finger prints after torqueing the lug bolts and even used a rag to open the door when backing out the car. I parked the car in the back of the lot to avoid any scratches. One of the guys standing around asked how I could afford such a nice car. After I told him it wasn't mine he asked if I knew how to do alignments. Said he didn't trust anyone but me to touch his car. I asked how he could trust me 'cause he didn't even know me. He was one of the guys watching. After I learned to do alignments his car was the first I got paid to do. A '72 Rolls that was MINT. Since then I noticed how even the guy with the Hyandai will watch how you treat his "baby". I've got lots of regulars now.

The point is when said "punk" started working on the tires he should've noticed how NICE of a condition they were in and taken a little extra care with them. Extra time needed to do so or not. That's how you get repeat business. Treat the anvil like it's a glass vase. Nobody gets upset. My fourwheeler needs waxed too. Thanks Ficord. Is 6:00 a.m. too early for the beer?;)
