Got spacers in, can't break wheel bolts/nuts - what next?

Another vote for the torque multiplier. Could have injured myself last time I took the wheels off the dump truck with a 3/4” breaker bar and a ten foot pipe.

Destroyed the breaker bar in the process.

I was surprised how inexpensive, relatively, the torque multipliers are these days when I was looking for them a couple of months ago.

The one's I've seen have a HUGE range in price--From just under $50 to around $1500. Like most things, you get what you pay for.

I left the 3/4" breaker bar I saw at Harbor Freight. It had a roll pin holding it together.

But...Folks that put a 10 foot pipe on a 3/4" breaker bar are just asking for trouble. :confused2:

Broke two (2) 3/4 in. HF breaker bars..... No more for me..... Got torque multiplier...

Probably something most don't want to hear, I got mine at flea marker for $10, don't think seller knew what he had...

There is another penetrating oil product that was designed for the aircraft industry that I have had great success with on severely rusted bolts called "Mouse Milk".

I have no idea where that name came from . And everyone here has gone through all of the possible jokes on the name! :laughing:

But the fact is the dang stuff works better than any penetrating oil I have come across. Takes just a few drops and if you let it sit for several hours that odds are good that a rusted bolt will easily break free. It was amazing how it loosened 1 1/2" bush hog blade bolts that had been on for 30 + years. You still need good wrenches and breaker bars, but you minimize the risk of wringing a bolt in two. It is expensive and can be ordered on line. But no where near as expensive as drilling out a broken bolt. W. Jones

Congratulations on the purchase, but I still don't think I would be looking forward to tackling the truck lugs, lol! Getting the lugnuts loose should be easier, at least!

A couple minutes ago I ordered one of these from ebay. Maybe not the same brand, but now I can't wait to tackle my truck lugs.

This summer I ordered the same thing, but a cheaper one that looks the same but had less sockets with it.

I did not need it, but had seen a torque multiplier demo when I was working, and was impressed by how they worked. The one I viewed was EXPENSIVE, and I did not realize how it differed from what we both bought.

The difference was that the expensive one did not require the arm that rests against a neighboring lug nut. It could be used by itself without the need for external support.

These cheap ones require the arm that sticks out to be held in position somehow, usually by a neighboring lug nut/stud. Still, for the price VERY functional for lug nuts. Perhaps could be used for a solitary nut hanging in free air, with some innovation.

Well, there are air wrenches and then there are air wrenches -- check to see what the rating is on yours for torque. Certainly use some PT Blaster and let the thing sit over night BUT the air wrench is the real way to do the removal -- far less likely to damage the nuts or the socket set than using cheater bars. If your air wrench is 500 ft-lb or less go borrow a 3/4 inch drive 750 ft-lb air wrench. It will come off.
