Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

Deerlope,
The HMEE replaces the SEE, so some of those in very used condition may be becoming available. I doubt a civilian could get their hands on a HMEE until they replace them. The big difference that I see is that the SEE is listed as a top speed of 30mph, the HMEE will do 70. That way you don't have to tow it to all those good rock digging sites!

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

Yep, that's a '56 Mercury Montclair black and white convertible, white vinyl seat covers, and if I remember right, it was a 312 cu. in. 4 bbl. engine. The engine was a gold color with blue valve covers and air filter housing, automatic transmission, dual glass pack exhaust, "moon" hubcaps. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And since my Dad owned a service station at the time, he used to fuss about me spending too much time keeping everything on it clean and shiny as a new penny. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif So you could work around that engine with a white shirt on and never get it dirty. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It was 2 years old when I got just before high school graduation.

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

My first car was a 56 2 door Ford. Not the "crown vic" that was popular, a regular sedan.. I had the 312 "Y" block engine also. I think the Ford "Y" blocks had a cross over exhaust between manifold pipes at the front of the engine. Cross over actually went over thermostat housing,, Am I remembering correctly..

I really don't know about those Fords ('56 Ford sedan was what we had in high school for drivers ed), but my Merc didn't have a cross over exhaust. And I could be wrong about the engine size on it; it was the biggest engine they had that year I know. You know back then there were frequently more differences in the different makes from the same manufacturer than we have now. I know when the rear end started leaking a little (too much drag racing), I found that the rear end on that one was the same as the Ford pickup instead of the same as the Ford sedans.

You must have been one of the most popular kids on the block with that car /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

The old "Y" blocks did cross over the exhaust. The 292 version did too; had a '63 F100 that was that way.

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

You're like me! I could not put it to one vehicle, although if I rally had to it would be another Jeep CJ decked out for rocks and search/rescue, or a big-block Challenger(ie Vanishing Point like car).

Otherwise, my list is like this...
Weekends - Hemi Daytona or Superbird
Daily Driver (summer) - Harley FXRS w/wide glide, 113ci
Daily Driver (winter) - Jag XJ
Towing - 3500 Dodge 4x4CTD6spd flatbed, tweaked for HP
Evenings - Jag XJR
Shuttling kids - Big Block '73-74 Road Runner
Work truck - KW 10yard dump, Cummins with 10spd
Play car - Viper or maybe Panterra
Project vehicle - Farmall's and Jeeps

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

My list has changed considerably over the years, also. But, as I look into the relatively near future, a newer motor home is in the works - probably a year or two away, after we finish our new house. And, with plans to spend some time traveling in the RV, my thoughts turn towards the perfect "dinghy" to be towed behind the motor home. I want something that is pure fun, preferably a roadster. I'll probably end up restoring the 1979 Fiat 2000 Spider I've been saving for a number of years, but if I could have my dream, it would be a Panoz AIV roadster. (see attached and click here). It's what the Prowler should have been, with a 305 HP 4.6 liter dual overhead cam, 32 valve Ford V8.

Part of the dream, of course, would be to set up a perfectly sized, closed trailer, with built-in clamps and cushions so I wouldn't have to tie it down -- just drive in, hop out and shut the ramp door.

Don Panoz is a visionary who made his money in the pharmaceutical industry, then "retired" to play with toys. He currently owns Château Élan, a winery and hotel outside Atlanta, and also owns several race courses including Road Atlanta, Sebring and a chunk of Mosport in Canada. The Panoz Auto company builds a gorgeous GT coupe, but also played with this roadster in the early years. They actually haven't built any since March, 2000. I suspect they're pretty rare.
