Yes and a talent for selling over a billion records, they still sell over a million copies a year 34 years after the group broke up.
Ever heard Yesterday/Michelle/Long and Winding Road/Norweigan Wood/Something/Penny Lane/Here Comes The Sun/The Fool on The Hill/Good Day Sunshine/Here There and Everywhere? Just to name a few.??? Wonderful tunes.I wish music today sounded as fresh and strong as those tunes.
But a person has to like that style of music I guess.
I like some of Elvis's music his singing.
I like some country, although I prefer the older country over the new country.

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

Spider Man, I'll admit I don't know the names of any of the Beattles' songs. In fact, about the only thing I remember is "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" and a lot of racket. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But I guess I can understand others liking them. I'll also admit that my tastes in music and movies is probably out of step with the rest of the world. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It seems to me that if a movie is highly rated by the "critics", it's almost a cinch that I won't like it. I like a whole lot of the '50s Rock & Roll (probably because I was a teenager then and kept the radio on in the car all the time, and the '50s and '60s Country & Western, but don't care for the modern stuff. Of course the Sons of the Pioneers were among my favorites.

And my favorite music is the old time Southern Gospel Quartets (all male quartets with a good strong bass singer); the Oak Ridge Boys before they went country, a lot of the Statler Bros music, but especially the Blackwoods, the Statesmen, the Cathedrals, the Plainsmen, and the old Stamps Quartet. So all the ones I like are rapidly dying off or retired. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif And yep, I grew up going to the singing conventions, three summers I went to the 3 week Stamps Quartet Music Company music school (took piano lessons one year from the Stamp Quartet piano player, Easmon Napier). I sang in the church choir and was the choir director during Youth Week.

And I can't sing worth a hoot because all I ever wanted to do was sing bass and I don't have the voice for it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

Bill:

I am getting in on this thread late in the game, but here goes.

Back when I lived in Cleveland, in the early 70's, I worked for a company in Brookpark. The owner had a Ferrari GT350 Berlinetta Boxer V-12. The car exuded speed. One day I got up the courage to ask him if I could go for a ride and he obliged. It was a Sunday morning on Interstate 71 and we headed south toward Medina. I felt as though I was sitting on the ground, wrapped in leather and looking over a sloped hood. That morning we went 190 mph. That's the fastest I have ever been in a limited production car. I will never forget looking under the hood at the black wrinkle paint on the engine and the polished aluminum portions contrasting with the black. It has 6 exhaust pipes, all ceramic coated internally to reduce turbulence and the sound proofing on the underside of the hood was diamond tufted leather. The interior was a light grey with the shifter sticking right up in the middle. I still remember the wood rimmed wheel with the Ferrari emblem in the center.

I have had numerous fast cars, sleds and motorcycles, but I will always lust for the Berlinetta Boxer. Even a Viper with it's raw power, can't come close to the refined look and execution of a Ferrari with it's monocoque construction, aluminum body and Hilabrand style rear end with half shafts and independent suspension front and rear not to mention the Brembo 4 piston vented disc brakes at all 4 corners and this was in the 60's.

American cars of the 60's had monster engines, monster power and a chassis about as good as a skateboard. Drum brakes were the norm as well as pogo shocks. Only the Corvette was somewhat refined as well as the limited production Shelby AC Cobra.

My dad had a 1968 427/390 Corvette Stingray Convertible with a wide ratio 4 speed, cast wheels with knock off hubs and leather interior. After 1969 came the smog motors and the EPA. Air pumps and catalytic convertors, oh, and unleaded gasoline.

Long live the 60's...........................!

Re: Gotta dream vehicle? Here\'s mine...

Since I'm almost 64, this one is special...

Now, a note about what it is - of course, it's "When I'm 64" by the Beatles. I found it in a free MIDI file. I tried to post it, but the forum doesn't take MIDI. It does take WAV. So, I searched and found a shareware MIDI to WAV converter, which was limited to a 30 second recording until registered. Unfortunately, while the MIDI file was just 32K bytes, the WAV file was over 5 megabytes! I reduced all the settings to the minimum - 8 bit sample, mono, etc and tried again. Got it down to 323K bytes, still too big. So, I went looking again, and found a shareware WAV to MP3 conversion program. Again with the minimum settings, the file was just 32K bytes, it uploaded just fine. So, 2 hours later, there is 30 seconds of audio in the attachment!

Yep, I was, too, up until about 2 weeks ago. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif And that is a pretty good tune. I didn't even hear the Beatles though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hard life? Just wait 2 years, he'll fall apart fast, too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That picture was taken over 5 years ago! Actually, I've looked like this since I was in my early 40's -- great fun at the fairs where they try to guess your age! Maybe it has something to do with my diet... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
