Goverment buying up old tractor

The amount of 'free' money giving to farmers though lame government programs is way beyond what most people would guess. We get lots of money though all kinds of enviromental programs for reducing run off, spray useage, emmissions, etc. Its big government at its finest. The sad thing is that its the big corporate farms that end up being able to take advantage of these things, Mom and Pop farms don't have office staff searching for a handout.

Somehow I read the welfare system falls under the Farm Bill?

If government gets involved in farming (which they have) doesn't that sorta take the control away from Mom and Pop farmers and (anyone who participates) what they can do with their land?

My family tried to get involved with gov't programs a few weeks ago and the FSA office said the government isn't taking on any more farms at this time. I wasn't crazy about getting into a gov't program but if its "free money" that could help off set some of these input costs were are facing this year. Actually, the inputs wouldn't be that bad- if the prices reflect that this fall.

A majority of the new money is not so much Farm Bill money, but funds comming under enviromental programs. Its not well regulated or well run at all. Classic government BS at work. Our industry profits from it, but it really does not give me alot of confidence in the way the billions of bailout money will be spent.

Come on.... the passage of the last Farm Bill in Congress was ugly, ugly! It brought out the worst in the big corporate farms and their legions of slithering lobbyists. One of the few times I had even a measure of respect for the past Administration was their effort to reign in the abusive excess.

It ain't the "environmental" programs... it's the WHOLE program!

A good friend of mine wrote an expose in one of the leading newspaper in the state where I grew up. Hundreds of thousands of acres of virgin grasslands were being turned under in 8"-10" rainfall areas for wheat. 'Course the only thing that was really being raised were crop disaster checks. 'Cause there wasn't much wheat comin' off of 8" rain!

Good upstanding, hard working Americans... reaching into their mailboxes for that check. And they'd be the first ones to start throwin' rocks at "all those cheatin' welfare moms"!!!

And blame the D@mn Government for waste and programs that don't make any sense...

Time to hand out mirrors!

Time for commercial: Fair Tax or Federal Sales Tax.

If those being appointed for Cabinet Position can not understand and live by the tax laws, how are dumb little mom and pops too?

Yeah, but sometimes it just feels good to vent amoungst friends. ;)
It really irks me to see programs with good intentions go stupid. But I do like it when the right people actually get to take advantage of it.
Governments are really hard to run efficiently. Ours could sure use some work! I cry every time I think about how much money we have wasted over the last 8 years and how much we might be wasting real soon...
I would feel better if that new program contained more infrastructure repair & construction in it. I think the equipment companies would too!

The Texas tractor thing sounds better than wheat fields in wetlands!

Where on the scale is the 45k rebate ? In the 100hp range the best I see is less than 10k. I doubt if you can get a 4x4 JD with all the options for 62500 each. New Math???? Also pretty restrictive as to where your farm is located... like a suburb of Dallas !
