Grand L40 or L60

I traded in a L5030 HSTC with years left in it for a L5740 HSTC to avoid having to buy an L60 later on when my L5030 eventually wore out. The L40 has a Tier IV compliant engine while the L60 has the Tier IV engine.

Well Triple R, by the time your two Kubotas wear out, we may be at Tier IX by then.
I wonder if Tier XV will be tractors with giant generators and very powerful electric motors. Like some of the big mining
equipment has gone to. 4 10-50hp electric motors should do it for most of us.
Sorry, but I could live without diesel smell on my hands...
Power it by waste vegetable oil, and smell the popcorn.

Only complaint on the L3240's I have heard was with a back-hoe ,seemed a little under powered

so would not apply to you it appears.

I'm 65, so I will be long gone before mine wear out, we are still using an old 55 Ford 600 my dad bought new as well as a 54 we bought used; some made in the 60's and a relatively "new one" made in 87.

There are plenty of people here with the 3240 who do lots of work with them, it's not a bad tractor but I think people find the 3240 is a little underpowered for it's size and weight. If you don't mind going a little slower it works just fine. For things like brush hogging you should really think about spending the extra money and moving up to the 3540 though. I think what Messicks sees is people buying the 3240 because they don't see the need for any extra power and then a year down the road plans change and they regret not spending a little extra.

Precisely my comments regarding my 3130 (same issue - smallest model in the series at the time). I really wish I had more power.

Being a 3240 owner, for loader work (what I bought mine mostly for) it is fine power wise. I do just about everything in mid range on the HST. For PTO work though like others have stated more HP is usually better. Also if you are thinking a cab model I would move up to a 3940 or larger.

Have a L3130 with Bradco 408 hoe, only time it is underpowered is when using road gear going up a hill, tractor has plenty of flow for the hoe and the 700 series loader is required for the backhoe option.
For me the thousand and some dollars to go up to the L3430 was not quite worth it at the time. If you are going to be plowing or using a large brush cutter or higher altitude then I would consider stepping up to a larger model.

Being another 3240 owner I would agree. I'm at 3000 ft., so I loose HP to boot. I have a GST, not a HST, so maybe that helps. If I had the funds at the time I would have bought a 3940. More HP is nice, but so far I have been able to everything I need to do.
