Yea, there are just too many applications where 3240 (And 3130 before it) can be marginal on power. They are fine for most loader applications, but are low on PTO and get fussy when you add lots of weight (ie backhoe).
Hmm.. Ok.
Looks like I'll have to start trying to find a 3540 then. The 3940 just jumps up to much in size and being as I'm going to use this in the woods on tight trails I don't want it to be overly sized. Honestly, the 3800 size is probably a better fit for me size wise.
Thing is the three dealers I talked with don't even stock a 3540. They only stock and sell the 3240 and 3940s.
Maybe I'll have to make a small trip to PA.![]()
Being another 3240 owner I would agree. I'm at 3000 ft., so I loose HP to boot. I have a GST, not a HST, so maybe that helps. If I had the funds at the time I would have bought a 3940. More HP is nice, but so far I have been able to everything I need to do.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts.I settled on the 3540. The 3940 was just to big to work in the woods like you said. The 3540 is a little slow going when the BH is on and I have to go up steep hill but it makes it up ok. Other than that it has plenty of power for my needs. I see you are in MA/VT. Give Jim Crane at Emerich a call. He is a good guy and they are nice folks to deal with.
Not meaning to hijack this thread - but I will temporarily - how much HP is lost with elevation? I'm at 3400 feet and haven't factored HP loss into my planning and attachment usage. Is there a formula I can apply?
I have purchased two tractors from Kevin Emerich, great guy to deal with. They just opened the second location in the last two or three months.I settled on the 3540.
