I think if you put real bumper on some litttle trucks, you would need an air ride shock to level the thing out again.

You know your Ramblers! Some Dad's back then wouldn't let their daughters date a guy with a Nash Rambler.

Anyone ever jump start a car by touching bumpers for the ground side? It was handy when your cables were too short and you would daisy chain the two cables for the positive side.

But then you would have to get another RED cable?

Remember CBers driving slightly into the waters edge to ground their vehicles. As a HAM, I can't even say if that was effective.

Talk bout bumpers got me thnkin, back in 70s dang near every town had bumper rebuild shop, collection of anvils & hammers wid a halfazz plating shop, some runnin out of cattle waterin tanks. One over by Rochester government been digging out old waste ponds for 25 years now on taxpayer dime because fellow who owned property convinced edummycated government employees chrome was from when defense contractor located dere. Only little problem is guys building ships didn't chrome plate much on de ship. Don't matter, contractors gettin paid to make big mess from taxpayer cause place is Super Fund site.
Next fellow who owns property claims property worth nothing cause Super Fund, so Tax Assessor lowers value to One Dollar.
Funny thing, property got sold few years back fer a few million. I didn't know all politicians so honest I might think somebody got paid off. Taxpayer sucker still payin bills for diggin out ponds. I almost wonder if diggin out contractors adding a little something to samples dey send in.

Friend drove a high end PU that got rear ended.
The replacement bumper cost the insurance co $3000 + as it was loaded with sensors.

My Kia has a back up sensor warning.
Most times I have it off as all it sees is my trailer hitch and the bleep is annoying.

Sister in law had a new Nissan Rouge and decided she needed a receiver hitch platform so she could carry bikes...

Dealer said in addition to the hitch it would be another $600 because the hitch option required a different rear bumper sensor component....

Had it been order with hitch the cost we be much less.

I've done that many times. Then one night I engaged the positive cable to the battery on my dead F150 and the engine immediately started turning over... I was glad that I had left it in neutral.
Apparently it can happen if you run the battery too dead... I've never had it happen before or since then

My dad bought a new truck in the 70s and ordered it without a rear bumper. He then fabricated a rear bumper including a spring loaded hitch to pull farm wagons. I remember helping to install it and estimate that it weighed at least 200 lbs.

I think Pontiac was the winner in the bumper contest, back when one could tell what make a car was from a mile away. My first car was a used silver 68 Gran Prix with either a 400 or 428 with 4 barrel carb, it was my first car with power seats, power windows and last car with hide away headlights. Wish I still had it today, I put in a FM converter, and the forgotten 8-track, then the gas shortages happen......
