I remember when tires lasted 15K miles, gas was $0.29/gal and cars were made of steel.Good old days;I don't want them back other than gas priceing. Also my first job paid $1.25/hr. and my first new car was $3150.00.
but then a new truck is nearing 25 times that rate, so you should be making $31.25 per hour to meet the same ratio. Alot of people are making $12 per hour, so there worse off today than they were way back when

And they should for what they cost with 20" tires, but todays frames has to be rust proved to the hill, I mostly blame that on todays frame design.

And whats with exhaust manifolds on trucks in the last 20 years they dont last 100k, was they like that in the 60s? My son has picked up a sideline business of changing exhaust manifolds on pickups, he's got more patience then I do..

It isn't so much that new trucks are less dependable or the frames are worse. Rather, they don't rust out as soon, the running gear lasts longer, so we notice when frames and other items wear out.

When I got out of HS those same people were making 2.30$/hr, while a base model truck was $3000. Today a comparable truck is around $25K... nowhere near the 75K which you seem to feel people that should pay.
That 1977 pickup was rusted out within 5 years, while100k miles was considered high mileage; by then you would have changed the points/plugs/condenser several times, at least a couple of starters and alternators, new valve guides at least once... now 100K means that you need to change the plugs and filters. When was the last time that you changed a starter, or even a tire?

They sure don't make them like they used to... Thank God!

Nuthins perfect I guess, but I did enjoy being able to sit and lean on my old trucks without worrying about denting them.

Wives dont ask a question, they interrogate.
They draw you in thinking that you can answer a simple question and be done with it. Wrong. That one question just leads to another and another......
They cant grasp that there are certain things that we could care less about and have little to no knowledge of said subject.

Walmart has finally opened up their service centers again.

I remember the days you could go to the store with a quarter, and come out wid 2 pounds of sugar, half a pound of salt, can of sardines and 3 slices of baloney and some change. Can't do dat dese days, too many cameras watching you.

Also recall Measles, mumps, chicken pox, lice, Flu and we still went to school, Smallpox vaccination and Polio. Had classes in school on History, geography, English and Math too. Paddled my awning boat upstream both ways to and from school bus stop too. Rich kids carried lunch in wax paper bread wrappers too and we made book covers from paper sacks. Had holes for inkwells in de desks too, but most de ink bottles was busted and teacher had all de inkpens locked in her desk, bottle of ink was up on top shelf of classroom and God wouldn't be able to help any hid who touched it. Still got knuckle scars from flunkin Palmer Perfect Penmanship.

And do not forget mufflers, they lasted maybe two years or 30k miles. I thought I had this figured out by going to lifetime guarantee chain muffler shop. Nope, the muffler may have been lifetime but not the pipes or LABOR.
And water pumps....
