Glad you found the thread! Awesome pics as well. I love seeing those giant logs like that, even though we can't lift them with our size tractors (and yours is much more capable than mine) That log probably weighs over 3k lbs depending on what it is!

Here is one that weighed over 3K. The rear end came off of the ground at the burn pile, so I put it down to get the picture.

Here is a big one on the little grapple. :thumbsup:

The bottom of the EA grapple is curved. Apart from the opening size, crossbars make the grapple strong but prevent skewering piles of material. As a result material is pinched from the top down. Although wide for the task, I regularly use this grapple to dig out root balls. It is just a matter of getting the tines under the root ball and slowly working the ball loose either by sheer weight of rolling my tractor or lifting.

A flat bottom with a sharp crossbar can be used as a land plane for leveling. This grapple cannot do that function.

When digging out bigger stumps/root balls, it also helps to move the tractor 90 degrees and push/pull/lift from that angle too.

I've been surprised at how much the blunt edge of the Wood's grapple's "teeth" in the lateral support web will grab and rip out. I think it does better at hooking small trees than the sharp edge on my bucket.

The wide tooth profile also seems to prevent slicing roots off when you pull, and instead keeps them intact so you get more of them out in one pass. It surprised me the first couple times it happened, but now I'm used to seeing roots tearing out of the ground to the sides of what I'm lifting/pushing.

As promised. Landpride SGC1572.
If I could go back in time I would have gotten a grapple like the one Piston has. And maybe 64" not 72". Let the dealer talk me into this style and size. Said I really wanted 72" as that almost spans my rear tire tracks.
Don't get me wrong, I love having it, and I'm sure I would damage my loader arms before that beast... But at almost 900lbs it can be a little unwieldy even with 1300lbs of rear ballast.
For lager granite stone in the 1500-2000lbs range I end up having to switch to my forks. Not sure if a 400lbs grapple can handle stones that size? A slightly smaller width might be more dexterous?

My grapple doesn't do good with big stumps or rocks. My pallet forks do better for stuff like that. The pallet forks weigh about half what the grapple does so I can lift a little more.

On the Long OBG2 like Piston's, what it the tine spacing on the bottom? What about if you add the optional extra tines?

To my understanding, the current mobile format of the website is to please Google, though it now seems harder to navigate on my mobile.

Standard spacing on the OBG2 is 8". Optional spacing is 4", which can be accomplished by adding tines to the back and the bottom($270.00) OR to only the back($110.00) or only the bottom($160.00) if that makes sense.

In the market for a grapple I could definitely use one at the house lots of clean up needs to be done. Been looking at the Titan and EA grapple Titan has an excellent price point but everyone seems pleased with there EA grapple... Decisions decisions

I should've bought a grapple two years ago... now my number of hours on it will not be close to what it would have been if I pulled the trigger then. I am afraid of running a ROI calculation but I still drool over one.

Figure it costs 3k (grapple, 3rd function, etc), and you keep it 10 years: $300/yr is like 4 days rental around here.

But the reality is it's a force multiplier. If you take less time to do your work it's saving you effort or the expense of recovery from the labor. There was no waiting for me. Root grapple was as vital as diesel.

Ya. Just my opinion having never used either! Happy to spend other peoples money.
I will say to pay attention to how wide they open up. Some don't open very far and that would limit functionality for me.
I also think the flat bottom grapples are prob more versatile than the short bottom "root" grapples.
