Does anyone own a Pneumatic Grease Gun?The type that uses a regular tube of grease, not the type that pumps out of a 25 gal. drum. I'm curious as to what would be a good brand? Also, how can you tell just how much grease these guns pump?Say into a blade spindle where you really can't see the amount that's coming out, like you can on a caster wheel or u-joint.

There have been a number of messages posted in the past about the pneumatic grease guns, but I don't recall brand names mentioned much. I got mine at Tractor Supply Co. and it's a "Versital from Alemite". They also had Campbell-Hausfeld guns that "look" just as good. The Alemite was actually priced just a few dollars less than the Campbell-Hausfeld, but did not include the flex tube that was included with the Campbell, so overall the Alemite cost me a couple of bucks more. I guess I just preferred the Alemite product because they've been around so long and we used to sell their products in my dad's auto parts store over 40 years ago. Of course, you can just shoot a little grease out onto a piece of cardboard or something to see how much comes out on each stroke, then guesstimate how many strokes you want to put in a blade spindle./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird,Thanks for the Brand names,I hav'nt been shopping yet and really don't know what is available. The "test squirt" sounds to be a good idea for the amount per stroke. We just bought a new mower that has 36-40 lube points,I'm sure I will pick up one of these guns.

I'd say the pneumatic grease gun will definitely be worth buying with that much greasing to do; sure saves on the energy required to do the job.

Incidentally, when I bought the grease gun, I also wanted the needle adapter and the Tractor Supply Co. store was temporarily out of them, so I went to two tool & equipment stores in town. Each of them had the adapter, but for the big nozzle instead of the small one, and each priced it at over $30 (more than the gun cost). So I waited and visited a Tractor Supply store in another town a few days later and bought the needle adapter, with both collars for big and small nozzles for $5.06, including 8.25% sales tax./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I don't recal who or when but someone mentioned a air powered grease gun from Harbor frieght. I think it was a little over $16. I ordered one of those, about a year ago. I really like it and so far it's held up.

Yeah, Ernie, I see in my Harbor Freight catalog, their item #00219-ORAH is a Central Pneumatic air grease gun for $15.99, including the "free" 9" flexible hose.

Tractor Supply Co. has a web site, but as far as I know, the only way to buy from them is to visit one of the stores. However, Harbor Freight does have online sales and I just found that on their web site http://www.harborfreight.com they have a new item #219-4VGA for that grease gun and it's now $12.99. So that's about half what I paid for mine. I can tell you that I normally do not recommend Central Pneumatic air tools because you probably cannot get parts if one breaks; they're disposables and probably would not hold up for daily use by a professional mechanic; however, I have a Central Pneumatic butterfly (3/8" impact) that I've had for 15 years and it's still working, and I also have a Central Pneumatic 3/8" ratchet and one of their air hammers that are almost that old and work like new.

The price seems right, probably less than most hand pump guns.I'll look them over. Thanks again.

do the air type work better than the hand pump type? i bought what was suppose to be a really good hand pump grease gun, an it still hits times it will not put out the grease, mess with it a while an it starts again!! then theres always a hand full of grease in the end when it quits an want do anything till i put in a new cartridge.
