Hi from Person Co. NC!

We just relocated back to NC after 20+ years elsewhere and getting settled in. Aside from the house site, we inherited 20 acres of property nearby that had previously been 1/2 pasture/field & 1/2 wood lot but which has been nearly un-tended for the last 10-15 years. We'd like to return it to pretty much the original configuration, so I'm looking at a bit of bush-hogging & deadfall clearing, with some road/driveway maintenance tossed in.

I just made a deal for a 3038E with a 5' rotary cutter (Frontier RC2060) and a 5' box blade (Frontier BB2060) so the fun should begin pretty shortly...

Nick,

Welcome home and to TBN. There are a fair number of TBN members either hailing from or living in the Old North State.

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you.

Does your 3038E have a front end loader (FEL)?

Sounds great! Well, as you start to tackle tasks, take advantage of the search feature of this site. If you can't find it or it's not clear, ask away :).

You might want to update your profile (under "My Home") to show where you are (at least Piedmont of NC, more specific if you'd like), the size of your land, and your equipment. This information will help people when they try to help you. Some of this is in your profile, some can be in your signature (you can see mine).

I think your fun has already started...

Hi Nick,
I am a new guy here as well. I'm in the extreme Western end of the state near Murphy. Sounds like you got a lot of work to do, just remember to keep you mind on the job at hand instead of letting it wander and put you at risk. Also, you need to take it slow at first to learn all the "hidden," danger areas, ground hog holes, washed out creek banks, hidden stumps and discarded trash. I was helping an older lady in the neighborhood by bush-hogging around here old barn. I asked about any think hidden in the weeds and she said it was clear, well after being careful several times and "backing into the grass and weeds slowly with the cutter on the ground," I speed up, picked up the cutter, then backed up and dropped it. Yep, you guessed it! I put it down just so the "stump jumper," missed a big block of blue marble about 12" square and 2' long! It broke one cutter completely into, bent the other and sheared the pin in the PTO. I never said a word to the old lady except that I would be back to finish my work once I had fixed the bush-hog! Stay safe and have fun
