Gents I want to buy a machine that will quickly and easily put an edge on
my blades. The blades are quite simple and the manufacturer calls for a
45 Degree Angle on the blades. I would like a machine where I can simply
bolt them down and do the pass's as required and end up w/ a sharp
blade. I care not to try to hold a perfect angle and do it free hand...
Am I dreaming or is there a simple machine out there I need to look for?
The blades are about 3.125" long x .250 thick by about 2.00 Wide.
Here is a picture of the blades.

Just a rambling thought from a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Using a grinder will cause heat-temper problems unless you have a coolant spray.

Disk sander with a miter gauge?

I sharpen mower blades on a belt/ disk sander with great results.

If you want it perfect, build a jig to hold them and your grinder at exact angle. Dont get in a hurry and overheat them, it doesnt have to turn the steel blue if you take it slow. Sharpen often so you dont need to take a lot off at a time, kind of like sharpening a chain saw, keep it sharp and only need to hit it a couple licks to touch up the edge.

That Makita may be the ticket...

I just watched [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIozLT4T6KM&feature=relmfu"]THIS[/ame] and it looks like I might be able
to lay a thin strip of .25" material in there then lay in all 4 blades at one
time, THAT would produce all blades to the same dimension and WEIGHT.

If you know any one with a bridgeport (mill) that would be the best way. You could take off the exact amount from each blade and have the exact same angle. After they were sharpened the first time you could touch them up with a belt sander.
