I will be buying a L5030 soon and am considering going with the Glide over the Hydro. I will mainley be using it for field, food plot work and I am not getting a loader. I was wondering what you guys think of the GST tranny? Thanks!

The GST's I've used go into neutral during a shift (which takes 1-2 seconds). It can be a surprise if you are on a slope with a load. On a place that's flat, you might never notice it but if you have a lot of slopes it could be an issue. Maybe the new ones are better on this point? Other than that, I think GST is superior for callibrated spraying, or other jobs where exact speed is important.

I called the dealer. He said the new GST has no pause in between gears.

Diggdug,

I have a L3710 GST . I have had no problems with it all. Once you get used to it, even loader work is not a problem. The only time I see a “pause” while shifting is when you are traveling at a low speed. At those speeds shifting with a fully manual transmission, the pause would not be much better.

I think a GST would serve you well for what you are planning on doing.

Good luck,

Gary

My first Kobota was gst and I did like it very much, at that time my area was 5 ac I was doing a lot of loader work and decided I would upgrade to an L48 which I still have. Now we have 105ac and I have a L4630 gstc and tomorrow we will be receiving our 2ND L4630gstc tractor. My application is working the fields mowing, tilling, spreading mulch and sawdust fertilizing I love the GST makes thing fun and easy in the fields. I think for you application you are making a good choice remember you get a couple more PTO HP with the GST over the HYDRO.

I also have a 3130 GST and really enjoy driving it. The shifting between gears is a no clutch, effortless shift with 12 forward 8 reverse. The shuttle from forward to reverse is also an effortless operation. The digital dash gives the exact PTO rpm and traveling speed wich is great for spraying, fertilizing etc. I use mine for brush hogging and loader work and it performs very nicely. Wouldn't want Hst or anything other for what I use mine for....

We run two Kubota GSTs and they both are excellent, wouldn't have it any other way.

The GST is fine, I prefer the hydro, but also like my GST. The hydro was just easier. I am still learning the GST and getting much better at it. If you are looking at the L5030, you may want to also look at the M5040 or M6040. Just my opinion. The M is a much different tractor.

Bryan
