I got my Tech Plus in 1994, but have never been very active. Whenever it looks like we'll get a storm, I'll make sure the htx202 is ready to use in case other forms of comm go down. I've started adding ham equipment to my craigslist searches recently.

I find HF to be a lot more enjoyable, more interesting people and lots of different modes to try. There are enough digital modes now it could take a year to just try them all. VHF UHF is great for public service, and keeping up with local friends, but it is kind of limiting. At least IMHO. I do realize a lot of people have very little room for antenna's but there are ways to compromise.
