what did you run for gas, volts and feed rate?

No gas was needed with this particular wire. I set the amperage setting on my Red-I-Arc ZR8 (basically a Lincoln Ranger) to 8, the wire speed on my Lincoln LN-25 to 175 in/min, the voltage was 25 volts.

I spent $8.50 on a pair of leather boot covers to keep the spatter out of my boot tongues (thanks btw) and I wore a full leather apron. In those 6 hours of welding I only had one spatter that got me and left a burn on my arm. I used a new liner, rollers, and contact tip. Since it is recommended to run with 1" of electrode stick out the tip still looks like new.

I did that job today, that 60-O wire was awesome. I went ahead did it horizontally on the machine, I was surprised by how little it popped or spattered. It was 6 hours of welding like I expected it to be. I wish my camera was working so I could have taken pictures.

How much water did you go through in the 6 hours?

I drank at least 4 bottles, I tried to stay hydrated, luckily it wasn't too hot that day.

Stoked that I'm doing this job again on Monday. Since I already have the wire and everything else, my only expenses will be a couple twisted wire brush cups for my side grinder and the gasoline for my welder/generator. I will definitely take pictures this time.

The machine is a Ditch Witch RT115
The third pic is of the wheel before I re-hardfaced it. Obviously the last pic is after.
It takes me about 10 minutes per side, per section, and there are 12 sections. So 4 hours of welding plus cleaning it up so I'm not trying to weld sand.

Those carbide teeth sure bring back memories, I've been on several drilling jobs where there were 55-gallon drums full of those things. I've seen more knock down drag out fights over which way to angle them.:laughing:
