Since a baby, (54 yrs ago) I have always been "in love" with tractors, dating back to my Grandfather's farm in Flemington, NJ. He had Deeres', Int. Harvesters, and more. My first "tractor" was a new Gravely 10 HP Tecumseh lawn/garden tractor which cost me a fortune ($4000) at the time. I still have it today, almost 30 yrs later and use it routinely! It was the only shaft driven lawn and garden tractor at the time. Of course, all of this was pre-internet! The original mower deck belt "finally" broke a year ago. I did have some other $ issues with clutches etc., but the extra $ for a top notch USA product has more than paid off. My wife used to board her horses at a place that used Craftsman lawn and garden tractors. They went through 2 tractors in 5 yrs, as if disposable. Their costs, including repairs far surpassed in 5 years what I spent over 25 at the time. Almost all Lawn ans GArden tractors are built by one company today, but NONE will running in 30 yrs., as mine does!
Six years ago, when we purchased our current home, it quickly became clear that my Gravely was much too small. I looked at Deere and Kubota, because they are the closest dealers to me. I purchased a "loaded" Kubota 7510 because they had 0 % financing for 3 yrs vs the Deere and it seemed adequate for my wifes' horses and mowing, etc. Of course I added the Markham Tooth Fork, alternator, aux. lights etc. It has been a good Tractor.
However, when we added 12 more acres, and another horse, it just wasn't enough HP and I want/need a backhoe. Plus, the "local" Kubota down-sized to one location further away
In April, I saw that Deere was having a 0% for 5 yrs. I traveled to my local (30 mins) Deere dealer and purchased a 4320 (48 HP turbo) with FEL.
I love this tractor! It has so much HP/Torque vs the Kubota to pull my Land Pride 5ft Rake and Box Blade!
Americans are always first (Capitalism) to buy the cheapest product, yet lament and complain about the loss of American jobs. Even Deere had some tractors with Yanmar (3 cylinder, same as Kubota) engines and components. I said "NO," I want American made and I made the purchase. My Deere motor is a 4 cylinder turbo!
My point. We get everything we pay for. Over-seas is often cheaper, but not always better. Kubota customer service for example, isn't great. If you buy a lot of over seas
products, don't complain about job losses.
