Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

Maybe so, I worked around in a few other counties, i see alot of JD and Massey's and case - Ih, some Kubota's. Havent seen the first Mahindra in any of these countries, Mexico, Brasil, South Africa and West Africa, not yet anyway. I know this is just a few of many, I sure there is a way bigger differnts for Mahindra sales in and around India. Just still hard to think that Mahindra sells more tractors than Deere.

About like pushing a log chain up hill I expect Ken. :D

One German car maker was talking about their experience building in China for the China market and finally stopping the project because all of their technology was getting copied and used by other China firms.

India may be better if it is open to outside investors.

I expect JD knows if India, China and Africa can not be hot beds for JD sales their future is somewhat limited. JD control of repair parts sources I expect will cost them in the end.

I saw Mahindra 20 years ago in W. Africa.

Someone asked if you could still get a fuel pump for a mahindra 20 years from now. My father and I were were some of the first Mahindra dealers outside of the state of Texas in 1987...my answer is yes. The fuel pumps were all bosch btw. All of the first load of tractors he sold are still running as far as I know, and that includes one that was rebuilt after the engine blew when the owner left the oil plug loose in the oil pan and even put a hole in the block. Block was repaired and I rebuilt it.

The early models were one for one copies of the IH tractors. High quality control and excellent fit and finish were hallmarks early on.

As far as India goes...John Deere has been concerned obviously since their cooperative manufacturing agreement with Larson and Toubro in India has made their 5xx3 series their most popular sellers in the US of their middle line up.

Coincidentally, last time I looked a a John Deere 4wd larger tractor, the front axle had stamped on it Made In China.

Is Deere making progress on getting into China and India to reach the bigger market base? I bet those 2 countries probably make it difficult for them to get in and compete. Ken Sweet

JD has been manufacturing and selling in India for close to 20 years, yet has a market share of less than 7% in India. It is a very tough market for them to grow in, let alone dominate. On the flip side, Mahindra dominates in India, but market share groth in the USA is slow, but steady.

I am not sure about China, but we see "made in China" cast into some of the JD loaders. I suspect JD does a bit of manufacturing in China. That does not mean they aren't high quality. Quality stuff can be made anywhere.

I was referring to the manufacturing JD set up with L and T about 5 years ago to produce the 5003 series for sales in the US. As far as I know they have had no previous manufacturing set up on farm tractors. Its the Indian tractors that are the success here for JD, with competitive tractors. Around here, the JD' dealer lots are full of them. 10-20 on each lot.

JD outsources their Axles now and always have but the the new ones that I saw were made by carrero in China. They used to use ZF.

This is fairly simple to figure out, look at the Mahindra section and John Deere's section on this forum...

exactly what is it that you've figured out from that data?

The US market for tractors is "peanuts" compared the overall global market

Well, that JD #'s in everything is alot higher than Mahindra's, I now this is not any kind of solid facts, but it is something to look at and alot better than anyone else has brought up.

Someone brought the subject up about the front axles on the JD's, made in China and the maker was carrero, I am not 100% sure right now because i am at work, but i think thats is the same axle that is on my Mahindra, not sure if its made in china or not, but that name brand for front axles in on alot of tractors, not just on JD's.

Interesting thread. When I was research my tractor purchase this year, originally my first choice was Mahindra. A couple years ago I test drove and worked the FEL of several brands and models of tractors. I was very impressed by Mahindra tractors and the price was good. But this year when I went to get a quote from the dealer I found he didn't carry new Mahindras any more, but TYM. He when into the whole story about Mahindras and TYM past relationship, but the bottom line for me was the lack of "official" dealerships within a 2 hour drive of my location. In comparison there are several JD, New Holland, Kubota, and Kioti dealers within 2 hour drive for me.

Why is this important? As my grandfather use to say "mechanical s##t don't break when it's sitting around. It always when you're using it and need it. Better to purchase a brand of equipment that has more then one dealer in driving distance. So you can find that part when you need it" Even with the Internet I think this is still true today.
