Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

...using that statement as a marketing tool is meaningless to me

You are obviously an exception...

Considering the fact that I hear and see more of their (Mahindra) commercials...and all or most of those spots use that phrase...I would say thjey have hired top of the list marketing research talent.

...I would gander that if (hypothetically) a person who had absolutely zero prior experience with tractors etc...decided they needed one...that Mahindra would be one of the first they would investigate merely because they had heard they sell more than anyone else in the world...

I don't own one but when I was looking at tractors to buy...had I decided to buy new...it most likely would have been a Mahindra because they had the most to offer for the least money and their quality appeared to be above or equil to the other two top sellers...

Correction
Both Deere and Mahindra are publically traded companies on American Exchanges...

Sorry I was incorrect in the above statement...Mahindra is not listed on either of the American exchanges...Mahindra is listed on the Bombay Exchange

MAHINDRA & M (MNMSL.BO)

Therefore getting business information is much more difficult than companies required to file with the SEC...

I don't think that I'm exception, but I digress. I too would have looked at them if there was a local dealer, but there isn't. Last I heard Mahindra was trying to bring in a small diesel (Ford Ranger size) truck to the U.S. I think there would be a good market for it and they'd be filling a niche that doesn't exist at all currently.

I have been told over time the value player wins most market share.

Just based on the quote it reads to me to say:

"Less money for equal or better quality tractor."

That is a powerful position to be in if that be the actual case.

One factor to consider is most all tractors used world wide for food production is directly or indirectly financed at least in part by other tax payers other than the farmer. This can affect buying decisions.

GM was the number one seller of vehicles for about 50 years but when they stumbled into 2nd place they then went to free fall.

When events occur that takes tax dollars away from farmers you will see more purchases being based on the most bang for the buck vs. the color of the paint.

Over time based on history we can expect John Deere to go the way of GM.

Some think Wal-Mart will never go the way of K-Mart or Sears but they will based on the history of retailers.

You can't take dollars away from farmers. With the pitiful low prices prices paid to farmers today for products they produce, they don't have any dollars to take, after they pay their expenses. Farm because you love it, not to make money. Ken Sweet

If one manufacturer was that much better than the others there would be much less room (market) for competitors...

I don't know if that's true. competitors may have a cheaper product, different options that some people like, etc. Rolls may be one of the best cars in the world but that doesn't preclude the market.

The marketing approach used by Mahindra is an attempt to foster the belief that since it sells more (we still don't know it does) it is better and the Deere owner made a mistake getting the Deere.
It's just a ploy but it doesn't make Mahindra look good in my view. It's like the mail you get that has an official looking envelope but it's just an ad for hearing aids. Hey, if the product stands on its own merits why does the manufacturer need a gimmick?

It may be a great tractor but now I have my doubts.

Can you explain that statement?

When events occur that takes tax dollars away from farmers you will see more purchases being based on the most bang for the buck vs. the color of the paint.

This one too?

That could very well be, it's anyones guess, but I highly doubt it.

Instead of "If one manufacturer was that much better" I should of said ..."if one manufacturer has a better or equil to value/craftsmanship/etc...for less money..."

If you search the web you can find quotes from the CEO of Deere....stating that Mahindra "may one day outsell them (Deere) in the global market...and those statements go back as far as 2006...fwiw

OK, it's about time we started talking about exactly how good Mahindra is. Personally I don't know anything about them but I've seen some manufactured products from India. Not products that a major manufacturer gets from a plant they built in India backed by their quality control but actual Indian products designed and fabricated by them. Their cars are not anywhere near Europe or the US as far as I've seen, the workmanship isn't there but I have a Mahindra dealer by me and the next time I pass by I'll eyeball their products.

As far as sales, it's a non sequitur. I don't care how many they sell, again Fiat sells a lot more cars than Rolls Royce but I know which one I'd rather own.
As far as Deere or for that matter Kubota going down hill. I wouldn't put too many eggs in that basket but we can ask the people on TBN how many have traded their JD tractors for Mahindras. Good luck with that, I think I already know the answer.... none.

So what are we saying people buy Mahindras because they're cheap? That's the problem, I didn't buy my Deere because it was the cheapest tractor in the pile. Years ago my nephew bought a Yugo because it was cheap, it turned out to be not so cheap in the end.

I don't know about world wide... they may be. I do know that their numbers for the US are way off. Especially if you look at four or five years ago when they were really blowing them out the doors.
