Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

The x55 were originally designed and built in Horicon, Wisconsin at the garden tractor factory. Then when JD built a new factory in Augusta, GA to manufacture their new 52/53/5400 tractors they also moved the x55 production to there.

Some stuff from a previous thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-buying-pricing/166372-rotary-cutter.html

A couple clips from JD announcements in 2006 regarding the 500,000th tractor (a 4720 cab) from the Augusta plant:

"The John Deere Augusta facility is home to the John Deere 2000 TWENTY Series, 3000 TWENTY Series and 4000 TWENTY Series compact utility tractors, as well as the 5000 Series utility tractors. In 2001, 10 years after the factory was first opened, the company dedicated a new 206,000-sq ft facility specifically for the production of the 5000 Series Tractors. In sum, Augusta now encompasses 413,000 sq ft of production and shipping space on slightly more than 200 acres."

Since the first John Deere 855 Tractor was built in 1991, John Deere-Augusta has been the linchpin-facility for the production of our high-quality compact utility tractors, says John Jenkins, president, John Deere Worldwide Commercial and Consumer Equipment. Over the past 15 years the products in the under 60-horsepower category have evolved tremendously. But our goal today remains as singular as when that first John Deere 855 came off the line in 1991: To provide our customers with products that deliver the quality and value they have come to expect from John Deere.

Note about the 4000 series. While most were built in Augusta, the model 4100 was built in Japan. It was introduced about a year prior to the rest of the line. That's why the advertisement refers to 4200 through 4600.

I'd like to see how they back most every claim they make. It says in their SEC report that they exported 18,000 odd tractors outside india. Alot of their export info is there if you read it. I'd assume thats only the Mahindra built tractors, their more popular models are Mitsubishi so they may not be included since those units are just a sticker. Reguardless, they are a far cry from what any of the majors are doing.

Guys were talking Global here not just the US.
If you go to India you will see that Mahindra holds the market share by far.
I would even bet that India has more tractors working than the US.

I don't think tractors are "built" here, they are just assembled here as most of the tractor brands do assemble in the states.

Take any appliance. Motors from one country, circuit boards form another and gears from yet another. That doesn't determine quality or lack of it. You sell their tractors, does Mahindra have an assembly plant here?

So I guess all those Ford F-150 trucks coming off the assembly line in Kansas City are not "built" here because they have some foreign made components.

A common statement from people who own/sell foreign tractors.
Assembly to those people means the dealer puts the wheels and loader on. Assembly in the Deere world means they actually have a factory in Agusta/Moline/Horicon which assembles (Assembly = Build) machines using globally sourced components.

IMO, my 3520 was "Made in America".

Let's say I need an injector pump for a 10 or 20 year old Mahindra, can I get? Because if I can't the tractor it is valueless. If I have to wait 3 mos. for a part that makes a difference in which tractor I'll buy too. What's the resale value? How sloppy will the front end be in two years? How are the ergonomics? What I'm talking about are the things that decide which tractor I'll ultimately get and I'll bet I'm not alone.

So let's also say Mahindra is number 1 in sales. Why? Is it price alone or are they making a better tractor also.

I've updated JD tractors and the bugs have been addressed and fixed, small things too. I watched this video on JD combines and they have the ability to make a change on the assemby line in a couple of hours. Let's say they find a better way to make a part or they have a part that is failing prematurely, they can adjust it on the spot with a reengineered part. That's what I'm looking for in a machine. I don't care if they are fifth in sales.
