Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

Take any appliance. Motors from one country, circuit boards form another and gears from yet another. That doesn't determine quality or lack of it. You sell their tractors, does Mahindra have an assembly plant here?

Final assembly plants in Texas and Tennessee

I looked up the company. 60,000 sq. feet with 40 employees in Georgia. That's not building tractors that putting on loaders and backhoes.

I was watching how it's made one day and they were in a Deere plant building ztracs and other garden tractors. they were building them. Welding, fabricating and assembly.

I like that I'm supporting other Americans. Don't get me wrong, I wish the best for all people but not at the expense of your own. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

I have had some first hand experience with new Indian tractors. A starter locked in on one of my customers when he hit the key to start the tractor. Long story, short, The starter had a grease in it that was of such high viscosity the bendix could not slide in and out freely. Company was notified and a year later we started receiving tractors with the proper lube for the USA market. Lucky this tractor did not catch fire and burn his barn down before he could remove the battery cable. Ken Sweet

Ahh yes, as someone here on TBN coined it....the infamous "Yak Fat" grease used in everything asian/indian...from gearboxes on mowers to the Bendix on a starter!
Dont get me wrong, I'm not anti-imports. They are good machines. Absoulutely nothing wrong with my Bro's Bobcat (aka white Kioti), or my Dad's Kubota...But just because a dealer or the 40 employee "factory" installs the ROPS, Loader Frame, and wheels, it doesnt make it the same as a Deere which is actually built here. Like I said before "Built in the USA using Globally Sourced Components"

Farmers here get so little "tax" money that it isn't going to have any effect on the decision of what brand tractor to buy. If you think that farmers don't have the bottom line in mind when buying a tractor I got news for you.

Again you may be right but I doubt it. Deere does alot more designing and building than it does "rebadging". Deere is so much more diversified than most of your examples also.

Farm Subsidies, Free Trade, and the Doha Round | The Heritage Foundation

Duffster in KY a quarter billion dollars sounds like a lot of annual farm subsidies in the world based on this 2007 article. :D

On a serious note are most people clueless on these facts?

I have benefitted from them over the years and do not say they all should be cut out. I expect if this was not the case then all farmers would be looking at value more than color.

Massive Subsidies Worldwide
Subsidies supporting agriculture producers are significant and widespread. WTO members report average subsidies totaling more than $221 billion per year,[1] a little more than 18 percent of global agricultural value added.[2] Based on World Bank and WTO data, the EU and the U.S. each contributed a little more than a third of the total subsidies in 2001.[3] A 2005 Cato Institute study indicates that farmers in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries received $279 billion in some form of production support, or 30 percent of total farm income.[4] U.S. farmers received $46.5 billion from the American government, or 18 percent of total U.S. farm income.

Hmm, I agree to a point....BUT Value is alot more then just purchase price. Its parts availability, service, support, business hours of operation, etc...

In the real farm world theres "no time for downtime" during planting or harvest. Its bad enough we often have to fight mother nature, I wouldnt want to be waiting 4 days for a part. AND the big boys (CaseIH, NH, Deere) more often then not have field service and 24/7 Support during Harvest & Planting seasons. If I need a part BAD, I can get it. I've never had to wait for more then 24 hours to get a JD part. Same is true for CIH and NH.

Hmm.....More research is warranted. I thought (right or wrong) that the first "in house" built Deere's started with the 4000 series. Again, I could be totally wrong, just what I thought.
Heck I think the 2x20's and smaller are still built by Yanmar....the 3x20 and larger are "JD Built"

The 2305 is a Yanmar designed and built unit. The 2305 has a replacement coming soon and, from my understanding will now be a Deere design, but I have no information yet as to who will be building it.

The 2320, 2520 and 2720 are Deere designed, Yanmar built units. The 3320, 3520 and 3720 are Deere designed and built with Yanmar engines - as are the new 3E Series tractors. The 4120, 4320, 4520 and 4720 are all Deere, including Deere engines.

I think the Yanmar is a very good engine but I used my friend's 990 (now 4005) with the Deere four banger and I liked it better. Maybe just because it is a four as opposed to the threes. There was a marked difference in smoothness although I had the 2720 and the higher hp in the smaller 2x20 series probably makes a difference too, less weight to buffer the extra hp.

Yes, a 4 always sounds better to me than a 3 cyl. And a 6 sounds better than a 4. When operating a tractor with more cylinders, I feel the engine has more torque and responds quicker when called on. Ken Sweet

The 790/990 (now the 3005/4005) are also Yanmar tractors built for Deere. I understand how you like your friends 4 cyl 990 better, just know it is a Yanmar engine, not a Deere - and 4's almost always feel better than 3's...
