After some snow and scraping, it is becoming obvious I will be needing chains if I want to get the most out of my Kubota.
It seems if you get the V bars, they can tear up asphalt, but also they do better on steep, icy hills such as where I live. That part is gravel, so no big deal. But the neighbors with asphalt drives, that is a problem.
So I have been thinking, which generally is the start of trouble, why can't I use the V-bars with the cleat out OR in as in flipping the chain if I see I will be on asphalt so the V-bars are against tread.
What harm would be done by this, I wonder?
Anybody out there tried this?
Thoughts?

Thanks.
JB

Maybe just remove the chains for the asphalt drives, rather than turn them inside out (which I don't think would help much). I'd just go with straight chains and add more ballast. Forget the 'v's.

+1 Forget the "V"s unless you have miles of road to maintain. I use regular chains on asphalt and there is no more damage than would be caused by tire studs.

No chain mfr or tire mfr would recommend putting the V's against the tread ...in fact, they are careful to describe "right side up" ...it is not only the V's against the tread, but the wrong side of the attachment of the laterals to the circumferentials against the sidewalls.

If you have a 4WD and were also thinking of running chains on the front, as well, if you have a FEL, then it is easy to raise the front and put those chains on and off ...so, fronts could be V's, with regular chain on the rears

Joe,

If JB has a FEL and uses it to raise the front end to install chains on front wheels, I would also advise to BLOCK that front end up. Would hate to hear of JB pinned under a tire, or worse.

Never trust the hydraulics to not drop on you...NEVER. Lost a good man just north of here to a FEL drop 2 months ago. Left wife and 3 kids.

if you run with them flipped over, they will chew your tire up quite fast. the ones we run on our skid steer flip over on thier own, and wear a groove across the tire.

Ive said it before but I will say it again here.
I was brought up to never ever trust hydraulics with your life.
They have let many people down.
I watched my uncle drag a neighbor out from under a combine head and not let him back under it untill he blocked it up.
