Of course, you can also do almost anything a track loader or mini-ex can do on a tractor…it may take you 10 times longer and look 1/2 as good.

There are a few other things worth mentioning. Clearing snow. Track loader slips all around, and even sideways. Mini-ex is pretty much stored all winter until the ground thaws (no real use but maybe loading things).

I am with you though..if I could have 1 of each I absolutely would. Love this stuff!

There’s almost nothing that takes 10 times longer with a mini x and CTL vs a tractor. It’s usually the other way around and the tractor takes 10 times as long. Again they’re different tools for different uses.

I wonder how many private property owners own both a mini-ex, and a CTL for personal use only?

Probably not that many but if you’re considering a new M62 a mini x and skid steer isn’t out of the question. I used to be anti mini x. And if I could only have 1 machine it wouldn’t be a mini x, but you really have to use it to appreciate it it. The mini x is far superior to my M59 backhoe.

Of course, the mini-ex is the best for ditching/trenching, and the CTL is best for pushing dirt and loading.
The point here being, that a dedicated TLB is an excellent combination machine (Swiss army knife) for those of us who are only occasional users.

That was a big issue for me. I'm still developing and clearing my property, and have already outgrown one CUT that didn't have the beans for the heavy digging and dirt moving I needed. This ground is pretty steep, too, and the CUT was anything but stable on a sidehill. I looked long and hard at CTLs before purchasing the M62, but without a 3PH I'd have ended up purchasing new skid steer versions of most of my PTO powered implements. It also turns out that tracked vehicles are prone to throwing their tracks on side hills, even though they're much more stable due to their lower center of gravity. I put 6" spacers on the rear wheels of the M62, which helps a lot, but it still will lift a rear uphill wheel if I'm not careful with a full bucket of dirt/rock. So for now, for the bigger jobs, I contract 'em out to neighbors with real construction equipment, and I'm grateful I don't have to pay the expensive maintenance or repair bills when those monsters break (though I've done LOTS of welding and machining for them when they do). If I ever win the lottery, though, I'd be sorely temped to get a real TLB and large track steer, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

The mini x is actually good for a lot more than digging trenches. I didn’t realize how good useful the mini was until I had one. My 5 ton mini blows my M59 performance out of the water and performs about equal to my Deere 310.

How well does your mini-ex (alone) do moving 10 yards of dirt 500 ft?

For digging holes/trenches I would agree!

The mini x didn’t get to the job by itself. I’d just throw the dirt on my truck.

Even without a dump truck there’s better ways to handle the problem.
