Heat

Good to know there is a standard. Sadly, it's not followed because there is an agenda to record the highest temps possible.

This reminds me of when NASA got caught changing the historical temperatures for the last year to make it look like it was warming up today. At first they denied it and went on about their reputation and how important science is. Then when shown the proof, NASA replied that the thermometers used in the last 100 years where not accurate, and their digital ones where more accurate, so they fixed the "wrong" temperatures.

It really is a big joke to launder money. Say one thing, do another, and when caught, just move on to something else.

I remeber that fondly. It was actually NOAA that was cooking the books. They would put thermometers on airport tarmacs, in city parking lots, and other places that have non natural thermal heat zones.

They then were doing an "adjustment" to account for the placements. They got rolled online and due to the fact they knew there would be no consequences to their actions...they still have the thermometers in the same places and do the same "adjustments".

We have too big of a government with no accountability, but they sure like to push a narrative.

Haven't had them long enough to properly evaluate, but ThermPro and Govee make inexpensive outdoor humidity and temperature monitors that can pair to your phone via bluetooth. It's surprising that these things are as inexpensive as a simple bulb thermometer but can be set to alarm if the temps or humidity levels get too high.

Airports are often chosen as reference sites for the lack of trees, and yet have grass, rather than concrete or asphalt around the weather station. Plus, airports are usually staffed and someone can keep track of the instruments.

Maybe in some locations someone is keeping track of the instruments....

The nearest National Weather Service monitoring site is at the airport about 8 miles north of my place. From what I understand it is a completely computerized system, no one takes care of it unless it crashes. Which it does, often. I check their web site pretty much daily - but sometimes the site goes down and remains down for a week or more until they send someone out to fix it. And...although most of the time it is functioning correctly there are many times, for instance, when I look out to see a perfectly calm clear morning without a cloud in the sky but when I check the NWS web site it tells me the skies are cloudy. Keep in mind that this is the high desert - as I type this I can look out my window and see the mountains 50 miles away so its not like it is clear at my house but cloudy at the airport. And there's been times when I've driven by the airport on my way to town (it is within a quarter mile of the road) and there are huge pools of water on both sides of the road - but the NWS site either reports no precipitation at all, or a "trace".

These computerized stations may be cheaper/more efficient than having human weather watchers doing the reports but they sure aren't more accurate!

In a few short months, everyone will be crying about the cold and snow (least up here in the north). It appears that no one is ever happy about the weather.
Not me. I prefer snow and cold. The only good things about summer are corn, cukes, tomatoes and bikinis.

Last summer we had week upon week of rain. This year, even when temps are high for this area I am not complaining. After last year, I will tolerate the heat.

Plus I'm getting a bumper crop of cucumbers.

I like the heat of summer, the cold of winter, and the moderate weather of fall. I cannot stand spring with the seesaw temperatures and unending winds.

I'm not particular really. Winter is the time when the ground rests so it can produce crops the next spring and summer.

Spring is ugly in the Southwest at my elevation. Cold and windy. Every day.

Same here in Nevada. The wind doesn't quit till the weather turns really hot...when we would love a breeze!

Our summer monsoon season (July-early October) is really the nicest time of the year. No wind, daily or several times weekly afternoon thunderstorms, and temperatures in the 80s (at my elevation). Everything is green and temperatures are mild.

Dewpoint is down to 70* here this morning, which is still described as 'oppressive'. But it's a LOT better than 80*. I went unhook my trailer and didn't even break a sweat.

We’ve been getting crazy strong monsoon rains this summer. Torrential type rains for an hour or two. Yesterday/last night we totaled 2.8”, and 3.2” for the week. The prior 10 days we got over 4”, 3.4” at once. This has kept the temps down (cloud cover), and the grasses and weeds are almost out of control.

Today is expected to be the third time this year we break 100F. This weekend it cools down for two days, where we are only in the low 90s. You cant imagine how bummed I am that I have Covid, and I wont be able to take advantage of the cool weather this weekend!!!!!

I wish you'd share! Our winter and spring were much cooler and much wetter than normal. Then along about the 1st of June its like someone flipped a switch. Essentially zero precipitation since then with clear (or smoky) skies. And nearly every afternoon since then has been 100 degrees or hotter. Normally I have to mow my acres twice a year...once in June after the heavy spring growth, and again in October to catch all the weeds that sprang up over the summer. Not this year. The place still looks freshly mowed...it has been so dry and so hot that the ground is barren.

The past couple of years we have seen a shift in monsoon weather patterns. Typically the Southwest July-October monsoons are driven by Pacific moisture coming from the Baja. We have now been getting systems from both Baja and the Gulf of Mexico.

Here in central California we're seeing more moisture coming from storms in the Pacific. Not enough for rain, except maybe some localized thunderstorms in the Sierras, but enough to increase the amount of lightning. Most of CA doesn't get summer rain or lightning, so when we do get lightning it causes a lot of fires.

My local area has been having more temperature inversions each year. Twenty years ago it happened a couple times a summer. This summer it's been over half the days. When we get the inversion it does not cool down at night at our elevation.

One of the local wineries that's been here since the '70s has vinyards in the local mountains at various elevations. They had to harvest the highest one first this year, the opposite of normal, because of all the temperature inversion days.

I enjoy winter more and more the older I get, Montana is usually too hot in the summer anymore with gazillions of tourons trying to get flipped by bison in the Jellystone. Yesterday they took us off the Stage 1 fire restrictions (That has never happened before in August) So we've gotten enough moisture apparently? I'm still going to enjoy going back to the old country of Norway in mid August for a couple of weeks.

We are actually seeing cooler July-September temperatures at elevations above 5,000’. Largely due to more summer cloud cover. The warmer Gulf of Mexico water is pushing more cloud cover deeper into the interior.

Always seems to be hot in NC for the summer vs what I remember for the North East, but after Debbie came through, at least everything has been watered very well.

This summer, last week, after some rain, finally mowed around the house completely for the first time in about 5 weeks (everything so dry).

Coming home from work yesterday though I had to take 4 different detours on the backroads because of downed trees...

Do you carry a chainsaw in your vehicle? I've a few areas in Northeast Mississippi that it's almost a necessity because they don't maintain the roadsides very well.
