Kubota M4700
Hi,

I'm Charlie, from Mississippi. Equipment currently in use: Kubota M4700 and a ragged out 7' King Kutter finish mower (plus the typical list of other implements; box blade, gin pole, etc).

I've already learned a lot as a lurker (thanks!) and hope to learn more as I search for a finish mower replacement.

Charlie

Welcome to TBN.
Any particulars about your M4700?
I took off my canopy to trailer mine from Virginia to Mississippi and it fits better in my Mississippi woods.

Thanks, guys.

Nothing special about the M4700. 2WD, still has the canopy (~90% of my use is mowing 3 acres every week, and 22 acres 3 or 4 times a year when it's my turn. I picked Kubota to get the independent PTO control (after years of using an old Massey Ferguson 50 gas burner). Biggest gripe about the tractor is the huge speed gap (almost no overlap) between 2nd & 3rd. 2nd is way too slow when mowing 22 acres with a finish mower, and the PTO doesn't run the mower fast enough to give a smooth cut when in 3rd. I did see an idea in another thread here about playing with pulley sizes to get rpm up a bit on the mower. But it's currently a bit of a cyborg, with not much left of the original 7' King Kutter, which started shedding parts before the new wore off. I'm not sure how far I can push it, given that fact that things have been breaking ever since I bought it new.

I've always tried to run the tractor within the 'orange arc' on the tach, which tops out at around 2400 rpm, but I noticed recently that the placards on the tractor show operation up to 2600. Any thoughts on running a Kubota above the 2400/540 rpm marks on the tach?

Thanks,

Charlie
