They shouldn't charge for the tread setting, and if so it should take no where near 3-4hrs. If they were doing it with jacks, hand tools and manual labor maybe, but most any dealer is going to have air tools and an overhead hoist or a forklift, should take about an hour.

As for the cutter, I'd push real hard to get that covered under warranty. One, they didn't have the slip clutch set properly, and two, it sounds like it may not have been the best design. I realize the MX series isn't quite as heavy duty as a 1008, but I've taken our mower in some horrible places, been stuck, twisted up, bottomed out, etc and never sustained any damage.

Number 1; should be no charge. Initial request was not fulfilled. This should be part of machine set up.
Number 2; warranty, all is good.
Number 3; sounds like you were partly to blame. I think the shaft would have bent even if slip clutch was adjusted properly. It may not have twisted.

Depending on how number 3 turns out would govern how hard I push for number 1 being no charge. If they go above and beyond on the cutter I would let the wheel adjustment cost slide.

Zebrafive, I think your comments are the closest to what I'm thinking as well. I'm going to see how long they say it actually took for the wheel change and I'm going to see if the cutter is fixed by Warranty/what kind of deal they make. Then I'll negotiate from there. Right now, I'm just waiting. Thanks again for everyone's encouragement and opinions.

I disagree. It's evident that if clutch didn't slip because correct PDI wasn't performed so I can't see how gocards1177 should be held liable. The slip clutch didn't protect the drive line as it was intended.

If you wait they can argue that you consented to the arrangement as it is now. You get a kiss with all this?

No kisses. I was there just yesterday afternoon. I left it as the salesman was going to try to get the cutter done under warranty. If so, I'm not going to complain too much about the wheel setting. If not were going to have to talk. Theres good advice here, but I can't call them up every time I get a suggestion from tbn. If he doesn't call by lunch tomorrow ill call for an update.

No... you can't take everything we have to say "to the bank"! But, we can help you to judge if your "gut instincts" are on track or out of line. If something doesn't jibe... experience here can help to determine if the wind is blowing up your skirt... or true north! ;)

If the dealer service manager chooses not to repair cutter under warranty then I'd call JD's home office. I can tell you from experience that yrs ago JD's home office didn't like getting complaints from customers.

Agree. John Deere warranty is second to none for legitimate issues in my opinion/experience.

I can't find a phone number for Deere on their website. Wherever I look it says contact the local dealer.
