Please help...It has been suggested to me that there are
two distinct ways to set up a backhoe,,,

A) using the PTO hydraulics or
B) by using a separate pump, filter, etc. just for the backhoe...

I cannot seem to get useful advice after calling several dealers... I think this Net group is more knowledgeable...
by far....

What are advantages/disadvantages of these 2 choices??

fyi, I'm considering a B3030 with BH75 backhoe, or a L3130 with BH90 backhoe...

many thanks and best regards, Fred (New Hampshire)

Here is a recent thread on the same subject. Click Here
The 2 models you have selected both use tractor hydraulics to run them. Cuts choice down to that option.

I have the L3130 with the BH90. In considered the PTO driven backhoe but what you get there is just the backhoe. With the BH90 you get a strengthened subframe that is designed to take the stresses created by a backhoe on the tractor. There are numerous stories of people who have busted their tractors in half with aftermarket backhoes. Anyway.. something to consider if you're planning any heavy lifting. The downside to the subframe/BH90 setup... it requires the bigger 723 loader.. and the bigger siderails eliminate any possibility of using a MMM.. at least with Kubota mowers.. Not sure you could find anything aftermarket that could fit under there with that thicker frame.

I have a B7800 with a Woods BH run off the tractor hydraulics.
I can't run multiple functions at the same time e.g. lift arm and lift boom. Dealer tested it and said it was normal. It might be normal and jsut the way power beyond valves work, but it sure feels wrong to me.
I suggest you take the setup you are going to buy for a test dig and concentrate on using both levers at the same time.
Try it with tractor hydraulics and with PTO pump hydraulics.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the power beyond functionality of a valve. Most backhoe valves do not have power beyond anyway. It has to do with how the internals of the valve work when a spool level is activated.

Typically when a spool is activated, flow is redirected to the spools and into the cylinders. Excess fluid is either passed thru and returned to tank or is put back into the high pressure stream, depending on the valve design.

If a second spool is activated, the excess fluid not used for the first valve is available to the second valve. Depending on the placement of the spools in the valve, one spool may get more fluid than another. The greater the flow the more fluid will be available to multiple spools.

The same principle applies to a loader valve when both functions are operated simultaneously. Both work, but slowly.
