Kubota L5240: Craftsman GT6500
I need help. I was all set to by a Kubota when I sat on a New Holland. I am tall and the NH TC-40 hst had more leg room: seat goes back futher than a 4330 Grand L series. When I put them side by side and jumped from one to the other the NH was more ergo dynamic, more comfortable, but the hst whined like a car power steering pump with out fluid when I would engage it forward or reverse. The engine was much rougher sounding.

On the orange side the engines both 3 & 4 cylinders, i.e. 3130 & 4330, were much smoother. The hst tranny was also flawless.

Has any one else noticed this??

Is there any way to modify the seat travel on the Kubota for more leg room?? The blue is more comfortable but I really think the Kubota is more of a precision machine??

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have a L3830 and I am 6'5" tall and 62years old and things don't bend like they used too. So I also had the leg room problem. I unbolted the seat frame from the sheet metal and used 2 pieces of 2"x2"x1/8" hollow tube to raise the seat And that sure did the trick.

Deer lope is wise and OLD /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm only 56 and about 6'2' .
The wife is 4'11 . We've never run into a problem with the amount of adjustment on the seat . I'd take his advice on the seat adjustment . But , if you are really dithering between the Kubota and the NH , put the same question to the NH forum . I'm sure you'll find the answer you need between the two forums . John

I just looked thru the NH forum on ops and there is quite a bit of info(read complaints) about sticking hst pedals and damages done by same. FYI

I've got a Kubota and a NH. Neither are as large as what you are looking for, but I'll weigh in a bit on the discussion.

To me the NH is a slightly better design and a slightly better ergonomics than the Kubota. That doesn't mean there is any problem with the Kubota, there isn't. Both have strenghts and both have weakenesses. Both are good machines. I really think that in the long run the tractor you are more comfortable on will be the better tractor for you, provided it can do the job.

As for engine smoothness, or HST pedal problems or whatever. I can say from personal experience that both brands are top notch. I think there are SOME problems with SOME of EVERY brand of tractor. I have not had any problem with either of mine. I would not say one is more precise than the other (and I collect swiss watches so I think I understand precision) your real challenge is to make sure you pick a tractor that does what you need to get done and make sure your dealer will be there if you have any problems. I think the dealer, and your comfort with the dealer quality should be seriously considered.

The NH I have is a small frame tractor, I bought it for mowing and for getting into tight spaces. I went to buy another Kubota, I even looked at Deere. Glad I got the NH. The little NH has a great power to size ratio and does more than I ask. The Kubota B2910 is also a great workhorse for me, but doesn't fit real well in my woods and on the tight paths, also doesn't work as well in the ditches I have. But it excels in other ways the NH can't. So I guess I have two of the right tractors, and I like both.

I think you won't make a mistake either way, and I think that comfort is something you really need to consider as a determining factor. If you are not comfortable you won't be paying attention to the job at hand.

I am a dealer for both brands. Frankly, its like asking chevy or ford. Both have their good and bad points. The New Holland has a weight advantage due to the cast transmission, is more roomy, and better visibility. The Kubota generaly has a smoother running engine and transmission compared to some, but not all New Hollands. Price wise they stack up very close, there is more of a gap in the cheaper models. I tend to sway towards Kubota more often than not. They are a very good company to deal with.
