Hi Folks...
Wow... we noobies are coming in fast an furious, by the look of this thread.
I've been reading anonymously here for a couple weeks, and am really impressed by the information and the attitude of the old timers.
I imagine I'll end up posting this on one of the other threads soon, but I'll go ahead and draft it here.
We made an offer on the property yesterday, so I guess I better quit browsing anonymously and get in there and start asking questions.
This is in NE Georgia. We're looking at 20 acres, roughly 2/3s+ pasture and 1/3- woodlot.
The long-term plan: We plan (eventually) to have 8-10 acres as orchard. On the remaining pasture, we're thinking (Lord willin' and our backs don't give out) a good portion of the remaining pasture as a market garden, or possibly goats (would have to have maximum security fencing though... goats right next to a baby orchard is a scary thought).
The woodlot took *major* damage from a wind storm recently... I'd say 75% of the trees are down. And some of them were pretty darn big. And a lot of the woodlot ground is seriously steep. I'd want to clear as much of that as is safe and sensible with a tractor, and either contract the rest or leave it as down wood.
At this point, I'm thinking something like a Kioti CK30.
