I will agree with everyone that the Cadillac/KIA comparison was a bit over the top. Actually, just untrue as stated by others.

This whole thing started because Larry used the term "cheapest". Depending on how you interpret this, it could mean "lesser quality" or simply "less expensive". I am wondering which was Larry's intent.

Do we need a Green referee in here, in between the Orange and the Blue??? Seriously though, I know I am taking my life in my own hands making a comment on this thread, but...

I am a newcomer to this board and a dealer, similar to Larry - and I must say that, when he used the word "cheap" in his original post - all bets were off. Larry, I am not trying to be rude to you, OR defend Kubota. But the word "cheap" carries some very negative connotations, and I don't understand how you could have not known that the use of it would cause controversy. Lesser priced, inexpensive, value priced - any of these words would not have cause near the problems as "cheap" did. I grew up in sales - my father owned an RV dealership for many years - and I was selling motorhomes by the time I was 16. I will never forget his lesson to me on the word "cheap"... Never use the word in relation to another product, unless you immediately apologize and use the word "inexpensive" - that way it puts the "cheap" idea in the customers head, but you as the salesman, by apologizing do not look like the bad guy: Brand X certainly has some cheap features. Excuse me, I apologize, Brand X certainly has some inexpensive features... Now I am certainly not advocating this technique - I personally have not used it for years - but anytime I hear the word "cheap" - in any forum, written or spoken, it makes me cringe.

Larry, I am sorry but I just dont' agree that you didn't know what kind of firestorm you would cause using the word "cheap" in relation to Kubota, and on the Kubota board. Believe me, I fight the price differential every day, just like you do. Yes, I feel that there are some things on the Kubota that are made in a less expensive way than my brand - but Kubota on a whole as "cheap"? I don't agree with that. One more quick point (not that I do anything quickly) yes, most of the posters on here are the buying public, and I am sure that most of them, especially after all of thier research, do not want to hear that the tractor they chose is "cheap" - especially from a dealer of a competitive brand - it just sounds like sour grapes. Which brings your credibility down, as well as the New Holland brand down with it.

I really think that most of this could have been avoided by a more careful choice of words in Larry's initial post. Of course, once the arrows started flying, then we got the "Kia vs. Cadillac" comment... Ouch. Heck, I would buy a Hyundai nowadays - what does that say about me? Anyway, just my 2 or 3 cents on the subject, thanks for listening.

LESS EXPENSIVE! Finally, someone who actually understands what I was trying to say to begin with......

Thank You! :)

Maybe UNIVERSAL TRACTOR CO. in Lakewood, Colorado. Oh, my mistake, you all aren't talking feet above sea level are you?

In front of my local TSC, there are a bunch of "new" tractors that are "proudly assembled in Indiana", clearly from Chinese parts. I have to tell you, THOSE THINGS are CHEAP JUNK. Cheaply made, cheaply put together, and it shows.

Larry's original assertion that Kubota tractors have market share because they are "the cheapest on the market" could/would/should have been said much differently. They are, oftentimes, the least expensive of the "major manufacturers" in a point-for-point price comparison. That may be for a variety of reasons and, I concede, some use of less expensive components. Take the fender breaking as an example. Or the air filter bracket we're always whining about.

The rub is that most everyone here PROBABLY would have taken Mr. Larry's statement VERY differently if he stated it similar to the above. I think he actually said as much later, but the lid had been blown off by then.

In reality though, nearly everyone here would have made the same statement in a more sentitive way. And, I'm sorry to say, that the whole thing came from a dealer, probably made the comment that much more rude.

That said, I understand exactly what Larry was trying to say. And I don't necessarilly disagree with him. But dude! Have some tact! Know your audience before you get up in arms about the reaction then say even more awful things to defend your actions.

To be honest, none of us are paid to be here. We poke around here for the fun of it. Somebody comes down and spoils the fun...then what the heck are we here for? To listen to someone tell us that we bought our tractors SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE A LITTLE LESS EXPENSIVE and not because we are intelligent humans, men, or purchasers with a preference in equipment?

Maybe dealers do get unfair scrutiny. Because we expect a little more professionalism from that community.

Would you swear to that? Or were you already prejudiced against Kubota and expressing your true feelings about the quality of the product? I think the answers to these two questions would be NO and YES. I like Kubota, I used to like New Holland. I don't mind constructive intelligent criticism and debate. But I don't like unsubstantiated bomb throwing. . .especially from dealers!

KeithInSpace..
You are right and I agree with what have said 100%. You said it the way I meant and should have said it to begin with. Like all life's lessons, I learned the hard way on this one and for that I am truly sorry.

I would like to apologize to anyone that I may have offended. Please believe that it was not intentional. In my haste to demonstrate my opinions, I overlooked the careful consideration for content, where I was posting, and how I worded it. You guys are a strong willed bunch and you called me on it and I dont blame you for that. I underestimated the power of "together we stand". You have all worked hard for what you have and I am most certain that you did not make your buying decisions lightly. If anything, our customers are probably the most informed buyers you will find in ANY industry and rarely if ever is it an impulse buy.

So for what it is worth, I would like to put this thing to bed and move on to more productive threads. You guys deserve and expect better behavior from a dealer representative and I would like an opportunity to re-prove myself. I expect some will still feel the same as they do now regardless of my admitted mistakes but I am doing the honorary thing in offering my sincerest apologies...accept them if you will.

Thank You,
Larry

Thank you, Larry, for your reflection and consideration. I accept and look forward to your continued insight and balancing discussion in this forum.

Holy geez...I miss a thread for a day and it finally gets interesting!!!

This is like the old Gardenweb site...ahh memories!!! :D

Oh, I also don't agree with the word "cheap"!!! Tell my wife that the $31,500.00 + I paid for my kubota is cheap!!! I researched for over a year before plunking down my hard earned cash for this and I looked at them all. The bota met all my requirements for what I needed for what I was willing to pay with AMAZING reliability to boot!!!

99% of us are probably not commercial farmers and our machines will not see 100+ hours a year. At that rate my "cheap" Kubota should last me 50 years or so. Calling all my research, including all the helpful advice I got on this site only to finally decide on something I spent serious cash on as "cheap" is insulting and seems to compare my machine with a $5000.00 Jinma, not that their is anything wrong with Jinma's!!! :)

Kubota's might be a bit LESS INEXPENSIVE but if a more expensive machine would have met my needs better then I would have sprung for it! What's an extra couple of grand on a lifetime purchase???

Kubota's are a success because they have struck the right balance with reliability and price. They have found ways to keep the costs down, and mistakes I'm sure are made (plastic fenders for one :( thank god I don't have one) I'm sure most (if not all) of their plants are also not unionized, adding further to cost savings!!

I'm sure NH makes a great machine, but I can't find a dealer around here so their market penetration just isn't big enough...yet, or maybe they are too CHEAP to set up shop in more areas like they should!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA!!

Just kidding! :)

My $0.02

Why does Kubota warranty anything for 2 years and powertrain for 3years ? It will usally take us three years to pay for these machines. I've worked on all types farm tractors and I prefer Kubotas.
