My dealer has quoted me on 2 different blades from HLA, an 84" 2000 Series for $2950 or an 84" 1000 Series for $2250. The 2000 series is heavier @ 535 # vs 375#, and the only other difference I see is the 2000 series has a crossover relief valve. Seeing as I hope to only use the blade for cleaning up after I blow or light snows, is the extra weight and relief valve worth $700? Any other makes I should look at? Thanks!

I did not look at HLA but I came down on Hiniker Big Ox 8' 2280 made in Minnesota. You should be able to get one for $2550ish plus shipping.

The 2000 is a much more substantial blade and well worth the extra cost, the price he quoted you for the 2000 is really good. I think I paid $400 more. Relief valve can save the day and the blade has lateral float, a feature IMHO is paramount for a snow blade. I sold my 2000 and bought a 3000 when I bought my bigger tractor. That is a great blade. Here is a picture on my Kioti.

How wide is that blade?

I think I've decided to go with the 1000 Series. The dealer said they've had both in, and that the 2000 is a serious monster. But for my purposes, which is only plowing my own driveway, and only for light snows (I'm getting a blower as well), the 1000 would be fine?

What tractor are you putting it on? I looked up the JD X320 you have listed and it looks like a lawn tractor. If that's the case neither of those blades would work. If it's a different tractor and you don't have front hydraulics and you have to manually change the blade anyway, the 1000 looks like a less expensive choice. I haven't owned the 1000 series so I can't comment on that model, but I really like the 2000 and 3000 blades and would recommend them.

Good luck!

LOL any of those blades would be quite a site on my John Deere. I'm planning on buying a Kitoi DK40SE, just working out the details.

I have the 2000 on my DK-40se/hst and it is perfect for that tractor. The plow is AWESOME, and the tractor is too. I plow a TON of snow each winter and the combo of the 2000 series and DK is unbeatable. I use rear chains and loaded rears too. See my signature for more details. Get the series with a crossover valve, that is what will save your loader arms. Not just any truck type plow works on tractors; crossover and lateral float are absolutely essential, as stated above.

Whew, that's a relief! Get the 2000, you will love it. I had the DK35 cab, HLA plow and blower. Here's what it looked like.

This is what I use now:

Short of the cab, I fully expect my setup to look the same as your old Kioti.

I should mention that they quoted me the 1000 series with hydraulic controls. I'm sure the 2000 would be a little beefier but for the savings and what I'll be doing the 1000 is where I'm leaning.

Last bit of advice. You will use the plow much more often than the blower. It's faster and when the piles get big you can easily push them back by just raising your FEL. Blowing snow with an open station tractor is a royal PITA! The snow ALWAYS goes down your neck.

I would seriously consider the 2000 plow and a cab and forego the blower. I bet the difference in a payment wouldn't be that great and you would be much happier, I guarantee it!

With a cab, you look forward to the snow. Big storm? Yippee! I can go out twice! I have a driveway that is over 1/4 mile long but with heat and stereo it's almost fun. Not so much with a blower and open station.

Good luck!

I've snowblowed with an open station. 8ft blower. Not fun, alot of snow coming back at you.

I too like a plow with a relief valve.....but i like to spend your money too.

Hi Coyote machine,

I'm buying as 78" HLA Series 2000 snowplow this summer. Thanks for your input a few months ago. Forgot to ask back then which cutting edge you bought? The reversible Boron upgrade edge or the commercial grade Carbide non-reversible edge? HLA lists the Carbide for concrete/asphalt only and Boron for concrete/asphalt/gravel.

Thanks for any input you have.

Hi, I just returned from two weeks traveling Europe, or I would have responded earlier. I inquired about the Boron edge at my dealer's and they said they've never sold one. HLA makes heavy duty plows; I think the Boiron edge would be suited to commercial plow work, not average Joe snow blower. JMHO.

As a price reference, I just ordered a 72 inch quick attach 1000 series HLA with Hydraulic angle. $1950 Canadian plus tax.

Now that we've had a few snowfalls I'm happy to say the 1000 is perfectly fine for my driveway. Being as it's well paved and still pretty flat not having the relief valve should hopefully not be a concern.

Off course the first time using it I tore the [expletive] out of the road at the bottom of my driveway....all of the asphalt fill the township has been dropping in there the past 5 years is now actually flat and level lol.

lots of snow down the neck, but it makes me know I'm alive.

I too have a few snowfalls under the belt with the 1000 series. I'm very please with the performance so far. I don't think I'll need to put the bucket on at all this winter. And Yes it will peal up asphalt with ease if your not careful.
