Buy or build a portable gantry crane if all you want to do is lift a ton or so.
Thanks but one of the key things I'm trying to do is add additional roof support. Portable doesn't help.
Thanks, I've got one from HF but it won't reach up into my high truck bed.How about a engine hoist/shop crane. Many capacities are available, and you can easily use it in other places around your place.
Thanks, but the columns from Lowes are only $112@ full retail and I don't weld yet.I would think it would be less expensive to use some scrap 4" or 6" sch 80 seamless pipe and cut it to length and cap it both ends with pieces of 1/4 or 3/8 plate. In place of the jack screw on the column use some steel shim plates on top of the pipe column and tack them in place so they can't shift or work their way out.
I wished I had known you wanted to build a trolley system, THe scrap yard I pilfer had taken in a large system from a factory thet remodeled. I picked up a couple trollies and I beams for 25 cents a pound. I got enough to build a smaller set up for a freind. They cut up 4 complete set ups. Im friends with the manager and if you like I can keep an eye out for another set. They come there pretty regular. Also several steel benches come in if you could use one for a welding table.
Thanks and thanks Taylor, I'll try calling you. I just this morning had a tooth pulled, so I can't talk for a while. I probably could use a welding table. And Charles (Dr. Johnson) who pulled my tooth made great use of one of the IBC totes you gave me. It saved his watermelons.
