Those big ones with duals aren't as stable as one might think. Toss in a little alky and the paint is going to get scratched.

How many beers did that cost?:D:p

So he drives off the bridge in his car and decides to go to his place of employment and steal, "borrow" a tractor to pull the car out. Since he's drunk and obviously can't drive because his car is in the creek, he does the same with the borrowed tractor that he never asked permission to drive.

I'd say that everyone is just lucky that this guy didn't get out on the open road and kill somebody.

Well, if the tractor is worth $150k and a beer costs $2 (at least that is what google is showing), it cost 75,000 beers, however, once you add in the tickets, the crane and the bridge, say another $50k ($30k for the bridge, $10k for the crane and $10k in tickets/fines and other fees) that makes a grand total of $200k, or 100,000 beers.
This might be less if the tractor was rebuildable, but if it was running upside down in a waterfilled ditch (quite possible, given that there was a drunken guy running it) it was probably not cheap.

So you could reduce this to.....price to involve employer's borrowed tractor in alcohol-induced chain of bad judgements.......100,000 beers.
Memories of said event while waitng in unemployment line stone sober...priceless....

This happened near me. I live in Terre Haute from 1992 til 1997. I know many people for Terre Haute so I was just waiting to hear it was one of my stupid buddies family members but no go. Seem like something on of them good old boys would try to do.:D

... and a beer costs $2 (at least that is what google is showing), ...

While I won't argue that a quality beer can cost $2 each, that's kind of pricey for beer. I don't have a very high opinion of the person in the story, so I'm going to make an assumption that he's the type to drink a beer thats priced near the bottom of the scale of things. Here, a 30 pack of Coors will cost under $20, or about .65 cents each.

At $200,000 in damages, that's going to equal 307,692 beers.

Of course, that is assuming that he keeps his job, or is able to find employment that equals what he was being paid at the place he borrowed/stole that tractor from.

I dont drink, so I just did a google search for the price of a beer and most of the sites I ran across (w/prices for beer at a bar or other establishment as opposed to buying a case) looked to be ~$2.

At $200,000 in damages, that's going to equal 307,692 beers.
Any way you cut it, thats a lot of money.

In a town not far from here, some redneck drove home from the local tractor pul event after drinking all day, in his Nissan Patrol 4x4
He killed a 9 year old boy, but drove home anyways. This guy may hope for a long prison time, because his community will wait for him with axes and pitchforks when he gets out of jail !!!

You mean they have rednecks in Holland too?:D
From Dictionary.com
red⋅neck
/ˈrɛdˌnɛk/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [red-nek] Show IPA Informal: Often Disparaging.
Use redneck in a Sentence
墨oun
1. an uneducated white farm laborer, esp. from the South.
2. a bigot or reactionary, esp. from the rural working class.

Why do Americans allways think that they are the only country with a "white, uneducated, rural working class" ??
This is a widely spread phenomena found in any developed Western country.
BTW, The Nissan Patrol is the Dutch equivalent of a redneck truck. ;)

I must have missed this when it happened. I'm just trying to figure out what he going to do. Drag the car home on it's top? Here is someone who actually has/had a job in that area. With and unemployment rate of 10% it wont be easy to find another. Then again I'm guessing he will be working for the state for a few years.

Hi Renze,.....at least it sounds like you have a good "Justice" minded community over there in Holland that will await his release from prison,...and give him the fine sort of "Welcome-Home".....party?,.. that will remind him of his dastardly deed and cause him wish he was back in the safety of his cold prison cell,...perhaps for LIFE!!!!
CHEERS,

Well they dont have that everywhere in Holland... but the place this guy comes from, is an old farm community, a semi-amish community. ;)
Most people just walk by when an old man is beaten to death by some 15 year old street robbers. in smaller communities, were not sunken so deeply. :)
