Only the colour and price is different.
That is what I am understanding... seems to be a consensus. I might just have to go rescue that surplus fuel and find a couple drums to store it. Are food grade blue plastic containers okay for diesel storage? I think so and I believe they are HDPE material.

If you were to buy home heating fuel how much does it cost per gallon as compared to diesel fuel?

I can't say, but if you start using it you'll have to change your username.

Hey Mark, it it possible to just take the existing tank to your place and put a pump on it or elevate it for gravity flow? Probably want a Goldenrod style filter also.

If not possible, the blue drums should work fine.

My fuel delivery guy says the only difference in the diesel and HHO is the colour, the taxes and no winter grade and around here if your caught with HHO in a road vehicle you get to extra for all the additional fines

As for plastic barrels. Last year I did some research and the more I was reading on it the more confusing it got. There are different types of plastic drums. Some of them can break down due to the fuel in them. I decided to go with the steel barrel because there was no risk of chemical reaction to the diesel plus less risk of the threaded bung stripping out. The plastic bungs are easy to strip.
I went with the electric pump with the optional automatic cutout nozzle. I did make one change thanks to the good advice of TripleR. I put a 90 degree elbow on the hose that exits the filter (not shown) The filter takes any crap and moisture out.

Around here even the color is the same. The red dye just tells DOT that it came from an untaxed pump and they throw it into both diesel for off road use, home heating oil and kerosene. All will work in your tractor fine and a 30% blend of kerosene to #2 diesel works well in sub zero temps. Kerosene is $5.00 a gallon at the local mom and pop store vs. $4.00 for #2 diesel off road so I'm not going to use any more of it then I need to.

I notice that your hose on the outlet of the filter is starting to kink a bit. I would put another 90 ell on it so it hangs straight down. If allowed to continue as is, it will eventually ruin the hose and have a permanent kink in it that will impede the flow.

Same way here.

I have stored diesel fuel and gas in 3 55 Gallon blue barrels since 2002. Not a single issue.

I also store 275 gallons of diesel in a food grade tote since 2004. No issues here either.
